Yep, bought a lot of stuff from him. Waiting on a 1/350 America island from him. Took the J.F.K hull and covert it into America. Are you going put in a full hangar deck and lights? Your going to have to do some sanding and filling. But you will happy when it turns out. Good Luck on your project. :thumbs_up_1:

Both the Kitty Hawk and JFK kits are the last configuration prior to decommissioning. I think that the Conny kit is as well but I have not seen it in person. The Islands of both kits will require a lot of cutting and Hacking to get back to the as commissioned configuration. Bacon Fist has the correct curved sponsons for the Terrier System and the launchers. The Mast's did not change to radically over the years but all of the domes go away for a Vietnam era build.I did my JFK to a commissioned 1969 look.

The best research trove will be Ray's Kitty Hawk Class CD (Vol. 20). Freetime used to carry those CDs or you can order them directly from Ray at:

Hi Red,

Are you just using the JFK for America? It takes both a KH/Conny + JFK + America Island to do an America. It is a complete blend of both ships. Including part of the flight deck. I have been tinkering with the idea of getting both and using one of the hulls to start a Ranger. The parts in the red circles and red box are the JFK donor parts to a KH kit. It will make for a pretty pricey conversion though.

I am looking forward to seeing it completed!

Good Luck,

Mark

I scratch builted the aft missile sponsons with Gregg parts. The hull is all J.F.K with the water breakers made larger. Also Gregg is making a 1/350 island of America during Nam. I don't know about you Mark, but I am having a good time building these hulls. Man I can't wait when I get that Hawk hull and start on Indy. Happy New Year and Happy Modeling.

Forrestal arriving for Fleet Week, NYC, May 1989. Photos taken by me, from the USS Intrepid museum's island (except, obviously, the last one, which was taken from the street).

Decided to do a bit of work on Connie's controller, ballast tanks and flight deck. A friend of mine, Sammy, is doing the planes. they look brilliant. for the decals we cannot find he is drawing/finding the pictures online and making the decals.
the controller is a bastardized 14SG with Robbe Futaba twin sticks. I have had it calibrated by an electronics guy here in Perth Western Australia.

Once the ballast tanks are finished, I will put a YouTube vid up. this should be in a couple of weeks. for now here is the water tight integrity test for the rudders and shafts.

Looks pretty cool Pawly! Are you going with a full air wing or just a few jets on deck?

Hi Mark, it will be the full 2003 airwing. I have a mate helping build them. I believe it is 80 planes and helicopters all up. And a gas turbine on the test bed. :cool_2:

A short vid of Connie with her deck on.

Only needed an extra 57kg for ballast instead of 70kg. :woo_hoo:
