1:72 Kirov class battlecruiser - Peter the Great

Thought I would post up some shots of Peter the Great out on the water two weeks ago.










Whilst it doesn't look like a lot has been added, I've replaced a few parts. Last summer a few pieces buckled in the 45 degree days. As it's about to move into Spring I replaced those, hopefully this summer their will be no issues. Also playing around with the cooling for the engines, using water cooling, but it not enough at the moment.

The next piece of electric's that has recently been added is a FPV system (First Person View). I have it my Arleigh Burke Destroyer (USS Roosevelt - DDG 80) and have become a big fan of these.

The camera is a live feed operating on 5.8 and is located inside the Tomb Stone Fire Control radar which is on top of her bridge with a 180degree servo for moving the camera. I will post up a video of it after testing.

Stunning build . Question how do you transport such a large model . I remember having with difficulty to transport HMS Daring at 1:72nd and that's a small model compared to your Peter the Great . . Paul Bannon has recently completed a 1:144 Kuznetzov and had to divide the hull into two for ease of transport in a vehicle with plenty of boot space but not enough for a full hull model . Although he devised a cunning plan which made the whole exercise less stressful . Your Peter the Great is really impressive a striking model indeed.

100% Awesome!!! Impressive model indeed and sails very nicely. Very sharp finish as well. Love the camera idea and the execution of the idea looks like a succes as well.

Hi Dave, I do the same thing as Paul. I have a Mazda CX9 (which has a lot of space) but Peter the Great consumes it all, basically when I take this model out, all that can go in the CX9 is the ballast batteries and one passenger.

It has been a long time, since posting.
As I no longer have photo bucket, I need to find something to host photos, so will do that soon. In the meantime a you tube video is below.

The model is in the middle of being rebuilt now from the decks up. About 12 months ago I got introduced to 3D printing by a friend in TF72 and haven't looked back, actually I've probably gone a bit crazy with it, but I do love it. It's a completely new skil lset that opens up a lot of ideas when it comes moving parts and detail.
At the moment the fwd half of the ship is progressing well, but their still remains a lot to do, i.e. 4 radars now rotate, only another 5 to go....

Hi Dorian, a long time ago, i.e. 2010 I purchased a set of these plans off ebay. They are not 100% accurate, but very close and considering I am building her as she looks now, then my model will be naturally different anyway.

Rob, are they the same plans that come with the hull that you and I have mate?
If not do they come with the lines of the ship?

I had made some changes to PTG's water cooling system recently, so I took her out for some trials on the weekend, it was an improvement, but still not their yet.
