Might bring the 1st turret top more inline with 2nd ones weathering. Have to see when all the pieces lock together to see if it's too much of a contrast.

It would not be at all wrong to leave it. Turret Two had non-skid on the upper surface due to the UNREP rig, Turret One did not. While nominally the same color the appearance and weathering could be quite different. In addition different parts of the ship were often painted at different times so weathering of the paint was not always uniform. IMHO they look great just the way they are.

Thanks for the info!

Actually, now that I actually looked into it, it seems to be fairly correct in appearence! Here's a photo of her in -88 in some gunnery exercise!

Still finishing and getting the hull ready for some paint operations.

Here's some other small stuff which I have worked on the side.

Finished the aft Mk 38 director.

Pretty straight forward using the Pontos set. Only difference is that I used individual grab handles instead of ladders.

Some attention was given to the aft tomahawk platform.

First some antiskid surfaces were masked with tape then some surfacer 1000 with a brush dappled to give some texture and bring the areas more visible.

A lot of lights were scratch build from styrene, wires and PE.

Bottom recieved some generic detailing with styrene and wires.

This is so frustrating!

I can't see any of the pictures! :mad_1: :Tirade: :Mad_5:
I'm on a holiday in Turkey and the internet here doens't seem to like Imgur. Well, that's not the only website that's blocked here...

Oh well, that's something to look forward to then for when I get back home...
I'm putting the popcorn ready!

Cheers,

Hey Marijn!

You could try to download a free VPN to change the country you're in. (Unless you already have one)
That might help if you want to embrace the action already!

Some more progress on the aft tomahawk platform.

Some minor details will be added before gluing it down but otherwise finished.

I gotta say, m8, that I really dig the modular nature of the build process that a lot of your builds have taken. Makes big projects like 1/350 battleships seem less intimidating, when you're on the outside looking in, even with all the aftermarket you lavish on the kits you build.
Sean Nash, ACG (aircraft camo gestapo)

On the ways:
1/200 Trumpeter HMS Nelson
1/700 Tamiya USS Yorktown CV-5

In the stash:
1/35 Italiari PT-109
1/35 Tamiya "Pibber" Patrol Boat
1/350 Trumpeter USS Yorktown CV-10

Well they are pretty simple frames just on top of the containers.
I did order some new ones from infini as I want to make few with the containers open!

Yes it's a nice thing when you can divide the build atleast to few sub assemblies.
Also it helps as you can focus on detailing on some of the bits when getting bored of other stuff.
Won't get stale and you can keep on working without getting burned out, because like you said, the size of the build can be overwhelming at times!

A few less pieces than the Advanced, but not less headaches. If anything I think the Advanced set made improvements to the callouts in the instructions.
There are quite a few details that do not even get mention in the "Battleship" instructions but are clearly present in the photographs. I looked over the IW, NJ, and WS sets and they are not mentioned there either.

I do like the extra PE plates of the Advanced that give the bulkheads more detail, but I didn't think it was worth the extra $$ it would set me back.
Time will tell if that was a mistake. Getting jealous already!

By the look of it you went ahead and glued the entire deck first thing. My strategy has followed Tamiya's guide more closely and I built and painted the decks in sections allowing me to freely paint and mount the hull to a plank of walnut from the beginning. I am curious to watch your progress as everyone has different building strategies and obstacles to overcome.

Your discone antenna is very impressive.
This is where I am currently and this thing was a SOB. I skipped some of those metal parts for the rafters to connect to and instead just used a bead of gap filling CA glue. Doesn't look nearly as pretty as yours. I did however run wires through those holes from the onset and created tension by pulling and applying a surgical spot of CA. Trying to thread a wire as thin as the fairest maidens hair through that thing resulted many expletives being thrown and three priests knocking at the door. :mad_2:
Sorry forgot to reply!

I actually got both sets! (My fault this time!)

The advanced set instructions are a lot better! The normal set has like 6 pages while advanced has 14!
The share some pages and it seems they forgot to add few pages to the normal set ! :heh:

The price difference wasn't that bad (75 euro) for me but I can say the advanced offers so much more details IMO!
I also llike to scratch build a loy of details so it goes nicely hand

And the construction finished on the rear funnel!

Some additional details added, the booms will be added after painting because some decals needs to be placed behind them.

Funny how the angle of the photos distort the ladders and antennas making them look really crooked.

Ahhhh okay. The Veteran Models launchers I used called for drilling through the tiny tiny resin tabs where the rails would run through. I was too worried I'd snap pieces off (and never find again!)

Super clean work on the funnel, you're cruising on this ship!

Yes, I didn't even bother trying to drill them open! It was a chore to even saw the stub out without breaking them!

Well done! How do you achieve the panel lines with all of the surface detail already applied?

So some mail arrived!

Like I mentioned, this image made me order some infini launchers!

Image

And some madness did I get!

The infini set is just unbelievable! Though it's not for the faintest of heart! One launcher is about 100 pieces of PE and the smallest ones are tiny. More like new level of tiny I ever encountered! This will put your dexterity and mental toughness to the test. I spent about 4 hour getting everything as best as I could, there's a few bits I'm not too happy about it but the set comes with 2 launchers so if I feel too unhappy about it I can always make a another one.
