Re: Calling all USS Spruance class (DD) fans
I'm going to be working up a small logo for a friend of mine, for display on his game streams on Twitch.tv. He served on Spruance-class DDs before joining the Navy Band, and I thought about basing the logo on one of the structural frames, either Frame No. 1, or else the frame closest to where the forward superstructure is located.
Something as simple as a top-down photo of plans is perfectly workable; all that is needed is the general shape, and I can take care of the rest.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That would be much appreciated. All I need is the most basic size, everything else I can take care of in Photoshop, including resizing et cetera.DavidP wrote:I have drawings of frames 70, 138 & 268 saved on my computer if you need them.

They're softer, potentially poorer-fitting, repops of the Dragon kits. If you can't find the Dragon original, then it's pretty much your only choice.

The Dragon kits are moulds made by Pit-Road (Skywave) and were also sold by Revell.
Also Fujimi has kits of the Spruance class and offer in contrast to Dragon late (2000s) fits.

He's posting about the 1/350, not 1/700, versions.

Gerry was referring to 1/350th kits, for what it is worth.

Sorry, I had not checked the link and automatically assumed it would be 1/700 if not explicitly stated otherwise.

I think we all assume people are talking about our favorite scale.
I know I've been disappointed at times when people talked about a new kit I was interested in only to find out it was the wrong scale.

This YouTube short video shows the Minihobby 1/350 kit parts. Unlike the DML 1/350 kits, the Minihobby kit has a single-piece full hull:

Howdy everyone!
I've been interested in modeling since I was young (long time ago) and recently began searching for a 1:350 scale of the Cushing (DD 985) of which I was a crew member of from 95-98. Found one on eBay for a decent price. Joined here for insight into getting her as right as possible. Hope to post pics as I get going on her.

Well, I will go with the Dragon kits. Ebay has them but they seem over priced but compared to the Minihobby kit review and what they are selling for on Ebay ($10 USD last time I checked and shipping twice the cost of the kit) the quality does not surprise me.Michael Potter wrote:This YouTube short video shows the Minihobby 1/350 kit parts. I've been working on my Dragon Spruance recently...have 2 questions for the type experts here...Thanks in advance for anything anyone can tell me...
#1. The red circle...is that where the SRBOC launchers are?
#2. What is the item in the green circle?

Ahoy, mate!
Green circle: OE-82 directional antenna for the WSC-3 UHF radio, mostly for SatComms. The ships mounted two of these antennas, and you can see the second aft of the aft stack. A variant of the OE-82 is square.
(edited) Red circle: see my 20:26 (Pacific) post below.
The port battery is at the forward port corner of the signal bridge. You can see the muzzles below the green circle.

Re: Calling all USS Spruance class (DD) fans
so...from this drawing from shipbucket.com, the red circle I'm guessing would be the starboard battery? Perhaps aimed about 30 degrees outboard from center?

Then would the red circle below be the muzzles of the port battery? and if so, was there just one set or is the yellow circle the muzzles of a second launcher? Also, from some SRBOC pics I've seen from other ships, the white structures aft of the OE-82 would be the lockers for additional SRBOC rounds?
