Fellow fans of the Imperial Japanese Navy Seaplane Tender Akitsushima (???) - as you know, finding reference material on IJN warships is frustrating. I have recently completed a build of the Akitsushima in 1/72 scale, and searched for many months for reference material on her. What pictures I could find I gathered together and posted on my blog, along with a brief synopsis of her short operational history. I hope that this will be useful for anyone researching her or considering a modeling project.
The Japanese publication NAVY YARD Vol. 10, Spring 2009 has two features on Akitsushima. One reproduces several drawings from her builder's plans. They are printed on the magazine pages, they are not fold-out plans. However, most are printed with enough resolution to make them useful after enlargement to 1/72 scale, and most certainly useful in 1/350 or 1/700. The second article features an outstanding pair of builds by master modeler Noboru Yahagi of the Hasegawa kit in 1/350. The level of detail is outstanding and the full page color photographs of the models make inspirational references.
If anyone knows of additional photographs of Akitsushima please post them!
