Kitty Hawk 1/700

Post by Cezary »

I welcome everyone as warmly as possible... I'm going to make this model USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 1/700 Trumpeter.
The problem is that I can't find the PE anywhere to make it. I can find 1:350 but 1:700 is impossible to find. Maybe someone has a set they're not using anymore or at least could share a source where I could get the set from. I'd greatly appreciate that. I would also be very grateful if someone could share any insights, advice or suggestions as to what to pay special attention to when building this model. Thank you in advance.
P.S.
If the ship's model is 1/700, what is the scale of tractor the Md-1, 1/48 or 1/72???

Kitty Hawk 1/700

Welcome aboard!

I would offer this set to your attention:

http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/pe ... rrier.html

As the difference between 1/700 and 720 is 3%, noone will notice that the safety nets and radars are a bit bigger. The only things those you can not use from this set are the railings and the aircraft parts. Because the difference is noticeable there. But you can find several aftermarket PE sets to replace them.
If the ship is 1/700 scaled, then the tractor will also be 1/700:

The instructions are already in the link, on the right side of the page. GMM's PE doesn't include too much information for where the parts go, mainly how to put them together. You'll have to do additional research to see which parts are usable.

Here you can see the price of the set in the 11th row:

As Timmy wrote, GMM doesn't give you much information, but I think the great part of the set can be used. But it's true, you have to do some additional research as the Trumpeter kit represents the ship in her late configuration.

Guys, thanks for the suggestions, but I will only buy vehicles from https://freetimehobbies.com/1-700-five- ... k-vehicle/. I do not want to risk with a 1/720 scale, up to the 1/700 model. Apparently it is only 3%, however, it is 13 mm. I do not have enough experience to take such a risk. Regards

You are welcome. But I think you miscalculated the things a little bit. The difference is not 13 mm, but 1.3 mm. This is hardly noticeable if you put a 1/720 scaled radar or safety net into a 1/700 scaled kit. But naturally, if you don't want to risk it, then don't do it.

Greg, I'm sorry, but:
Length: 1.068.9 ft (325.8 m) LOA2] = 326m (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Kitty_Hawk_(CV-63)
scale 1/700 = 46.6 cm = 466 mm
scale 1/720 = 45.3 cm = 453 mm
according to my calculations the difference = 13 mm
I am sorry, but it seems to me that it is good

Oh, I see! You don't have to worry about it. Can you see the railings on the upper left side?

http://www.goldmm.com/ships/gms7carr.htm

13 mm is approximately 4 pieces from them in the first row. Let's say you have to leave out a catwalk or a small platform. But as I wrote, the choice is yours.

Well, you're probably right. However, considering what I wrote above (little experience) I will stay with the purchase of only vehicles.

My Kitty arrived ... A large box for 1/700 and a dozen frames with parts in it. At first glance, they seem to be accurate and detailed. We'll see during construction ...

However, there are no barriers or such grids: https://www.ebay.com/p/OceanSpirit-H054 ... 5025077518.
I'm seriously wondering if I have to buy one and the second to 1/700, it will not be necessary and I can give up shopping (financial outlay)

I think I will not buy PE, because I think it's not bad. What do you think?

I am placing the stern and the elements of the left and right sides of the ship lightly.

Tiny elements like in 1/700, but perfectly fitted. Yes, I know there are some places to re-paint, but that's not a problem. After corrections, when I mount the railings it will be fine. I'm just thinking

I am trying to complete and build a tower and here I have a question for experienced colleagues.

What to do with whole rows of windows? Leave as they are? Paint in black / dark gray / white? I remind you that it is 1/700 ... Thank you!
