Tamiya Haze Gray

Any Tamiya paint users out there have a good recipe for making haze gray for a modern USS New Jersey? I�m aware they make it in a rattle can but don�t want to go that route. Also not interested in other paint brand recommends ... I�d prefer to stick with what I know. Thanks for any suggestions.

I understand modern haze gray is different than WWll haze gray, but I have started with Tamiya XF 19 Sky Gray and lightened it accordingly to haze gray paint chips (maybe add a VERY little blue).

I agree XF-19 Sky Grey is a good place to start. Of course I�m out of that at the moment so I experimented a bit. The following ratio doesn�t seem too bad:

3 parts XF-53 Neutral Grey
5 parts XF-2 Flat White
1 part XF-55 Deck Tan

One thing I know for sure ... XF-66 Light Grey should not be considered light or grey. It�s quite dark and it has a distinct blue hue.

I found this suggestion in another thread and it works great. I mixed a batch that I used for brush touch-up, on a kit that I spray painted overall with Tamiya Haze Grey:

Testors Model Master Acrylic Neutral Gray 36270

Mix about 3 parts US Navy Blue Gray, 1 part Neutral Gray.

Painting my 1:192 Missouri and Alaska i mixed color from the "Golden" brand artists acrylics (bottle not tube) to match appropriate color chips. There are various discussions on colors and mixing elsewhere on this board which are quite helpful. Haze Grey is a little imprecise as it will depend on the time period described. The modern BB63 and the 1945 CB1 are different indeed!

XF-19 sky grey lightened with white is my choice. After painting a light blue filter to give that slight blue tint.
I'd suggest just trying out and see what pleases your own eyes the most and go with that.

I've been disappointed with Tamiya colors more than once. Their paint color doesn't always match the cover color, and sometimes they are really off!

Tamiya LP-14 Maizuru navy gray is actually pretty close. Kure is also with a drop of white added.
I expect later this year the true Haze Gray will be LP bottled.

I know your pain though. I built the Missouri with nothing but rattle cans and it was really difficult to pull off without over spraying.
