My guess is 507C overall. I think that photo is colorized.
Kinda too good to be true me thinks, pre-war neutrality colors.

kais58's link points to a photo showing WARSPITE in the Mediterranean Fleet before the Second World War. By the time of the Second Battle of Narvik (April 1940) she was wearing Home Fleet Grey (either AP507A or AP507B, which were the same colour). The nationality markings on "B" turret had been painted out. By early May she was back in the Mediterranean. I'm not aware of any photos of her in July 1940, but I would guess that she'd been repainted into AP507C Mediterranean Grey, or possibly the "block" scheme seen in later photos.

They show she was back in overall Mediterranean grey at this time

(One assumes the block scheme appeared when the Mediterranean Fleet was ordered to repaint to "dazzle" in early August 1940 - see Mediterranean Fleet War Diary entry for 7th August 1940: ADM 199/386)

That photo is definitely colourised but thanks all for your help, 507C it is.

Although the kit claims to show her 1941 configuration, it actually (loosely) represents her after the 1942-43 USA repairs and before the modernisation refit in UK in 1943. Trumpeter have not bothered to add the SR.RDF (gunnery radar) antenna (Type 284) on the for'd LA.DCT (part G12) - it was a Yagi array similar to that depicted by parts PE1 and PE3 - nor have they reproduced the AW.RDF (Type 279) at the fore and main topmasts - admittedly this is difficult (but not impossible) in 1/700 scale. A radio direction-finding "hut" with an aerial on top was fitted on the quarterdeck.

Good day dear members of the community .I plan to start making "Queen Elizabeth" in Colombo in 1944 and again there is a question raised here repeatedly...exist-whether images or drawings to the site upstairs of the hangar with the established anti-aircraft machine guns (6 Oerlikon mk5)...many thanks

Hi, All!!!

I am building a HMS Warspite model on a scale of 1: 350 (Academy+Pontos+Ka Design).
My building story can be seen here.
Now I need help with 10 ton aircraft cranes. I can not find good drawings or photographs.
The fact that the crane is much more complicated I saw on the model of Colin Vass and on the foto other ships.

Will be doing 1/700 1915 Warspite from Trumpeter. Most cost efficient and accurate Photoetch set for it? Cant seem to find a dedicated one...

Mostly would need Barrels, Cranes, Starfish details.. railings of course.

I am planning on doing Warspite and Queen Elizabeth after their refits in 1924-26 refit, but am not sure on which of the Trumpeter 700 scale kits to base them on.
They had new bulges, truncated funnels and new bridge levels which make a nice comparison to the original form and later refits in the 30's
Some references used so far are Raven & Roberts and Burt plus photos from the net, but the best kit to use has failed me.

Any help would be appreciated

Hey Terry, Trumpeters' Barham (1941) is your best starting point I think. It has the trunked funnel and torpedo bulges. You will have to change the bulges a bit but that is also true if you want build her as Barham (1941). The bridgework is also closer to what you want than trumpeters's WW1 QEs. It does have the wrong turrets for a 20 s QE/Valiant (or a 41 Barham for that matter) but there are a number of aftermarket turrets available. For my very slow build of Valiant (1930) I use the turrets of trumpeters' WW1 QEs.

Hello everyone.

When battleship HMS Warspite had her major re-build, it appears from photographs that for some time after, the foremast was placed/stepped back to front. Can anyone explain why?

Thank you for the photo of Warspite's "B" turret - interesting that the actual 0.5" guns themselves are absent - just their mountings are shown!

Hi everyone!
I am about to start construction of Trumpeter's 1:700 Valiant. I intend to depict her as in November 1941.
I found that of the two near-identical sisters (after reconstruction) QE is much better documented. I have not found an accurate plan of Valiant from the period in question, just a side profile in R.A. Burt's book and some others in the Shipcraft publication dealing with class as well as another one in the Ensign 4 booklet. Of these, the one in Burt's book is the most detailed.
This means that I will construct a QE with some differences here and there.
The differences known to me are:
- pole mainmast
- no sternwalk
- different aircraft/boat handling cranes
- minor differences in the bridge structure, i.e just two portholes on the upper bridge face, some differences in the sides
- different style ladders leading from the quarterdeck to the forecastle deck
- external degaussing cable.
Apart from the ones listed above I am afraid I have to stick to QE's plans although I know that e.g. the arrangement of deck vents must have been somewhat different. WEM's instructions for their PE set mention a difference in the fit and location of the ship's boats but do not specify.
Can anybody add anything to the list above?
I would be extremely grateful as I strive to be as accurate as possible.

WEM 1/350 Warspite PE

I'm surprised not to see any discussion of this in a search...

I'm about to start a Warspite, probably 1941 or 1942. I know the Trumpeter version is mostly 1942. Looking around it appears that as usual the minimal included PE does not include most of the railings, which I find necessary. There are seemingly only two specific sets commonly available these days, one from Pontos and the other the WEM. I know the Pontos one is targeted mainly at the Academy kit. How well does the WEM one fit the Trumpeter kit?

I'm not seeking all-out detail. Usually a reasonably accurate stock kit with railings and a bit of other PE is good enough for me. GMM level of detail, not Pontos.

It seems that around 1941~1942, the compass was pushed back and "Chart. T" was installed.
