battery longevity

Post by jimbolina25 »

hi all

right becuase im a complete nub when it comes to electronics i have some questions for you...

first one is... i know the setup i have in my little destroyer/ship thingy will provide ample power to shift it. what i dont know is the battery duration ill get..

what im running is 2 como drills 260 motors (DIRECT DRIVE) running from a 20amp mtronics speed controller powerd by a 7.2 volt 1600 battery ( i know the 3000's are onlt a tenner for a cheap one but as stated in a earlier post... this is all made from leftovers)

so does anyone have a clue on battery duration (preferably a time based on tearing round at full speed so i have a minimum time before i can expect it to die) :lol_4:

thanx all.. jim

1600, you probably wont have much time. i'm not good at calculations to check how fast your motors will drain it but i'm guessing around 1/2 hour? i dunno.... if i were you i'd pick up some gell cells.

Hello
The best way i have of finding out battery life is
A stick it in the bath/pond at full speed.
B stick it on the bench and do the same thing.
C buy a bigger battery pack ( 3000 )
D buy a gel cell

right... are gel cells roughly the same size as nicad stick packs??.. also how much do they cost... also the 3000's would that mean id begetting around a hours run time?.. if so would it be cheaper to buy 2 of them??

Gel Cells vary in size and cost.... you can get one that is a little smaller than two 6-cell NiCds stacked on each others side for about $8 if you find a good deal.

Hi
ni-cads have a memory and must be discharged after each use and run down faster
gel cells are just better
