1/700 British sloop of the Cruizer class 1797-1820

Post by maxim »

Currently I am scratch building a sloop of the Cruizer class. The Cruizer class were brigg sloops and were 100 ft long, 30 ft 6in wide and had 16x32-pounder carronades and, 2x6-pounder. There were also a ship sloop version, the Snake class.

[The Cruizer class was the most numerous class of warships built by the British during the Napoleonic wars, and is in fact the most numerous class of sailing warship built to a single design for any navy at any time. - Moderator]

Here some photos of the building of the hull and the bulwark:

She will be about 5 cm long. Therefore she is shorter than 3 in ;)

I am using styrene sheets. The hull was made of 1 mm sheets, the bulwarks of 0,5 mm sheets.

wow! amazing level of craftsman ship for such a small ship! i'd be lucky to even see the actual ship through all the glue i'd use.

Please tell me you didn't scratchbuild the Golden Hind?

Here a improved version of the head knee:

I used 0,25 mm thick polystyrol sheet this time instead of 0,5 mm thick sheets.

@ kennylibben:
Here is an article about my scratch built Golden Hind. It's in German, but there are a lot of pictures.

You sir, are the reason this site is such a benefit to us fledgling scratchbuilders. Thank you for sharing your pictures of such a fine subject, one that I really want to try.

Absolutely amazing work for such a tiny model! (Are you going to add rigging?)
Interesting to see its size compared to the Golden Hind (I assume this is also 1/700?). Despite being a small warship, it's actually noticeably larger than the Hind.

I'm also building a small sailing warship (a brig), currently working on the rigging - will post some photos when it's complete.

@ kennylibben: sorry, I forgot the coin. The hull is 5 cm long.

@ EPinniger: Golden Hind is also in 1/700. I will add standing rigging and perhaps some parts of the running rigging as the braces. I was also surpriced how small the Golden Hind was.

The deck was painted with Revell 88 (ochre) and afterwards with different brown and gray coloured penciles - with which I painted in the direction of the planks.
