Except for being some 15' longer, there doesn't seem to be much external difference between a J Class, and a K class. I suppose you could take a Flyhawk Kelly and, using most of the kit, greatly improve this Jervis. Too bad Aoshima has not represented the "eyebrows" on the hull portholes, but did on the superstructure. Odd!

But there is a 17 foot difference (at least according to Wikipedia), and in 1/700 scale that's about 1 cm. - apparent to even a casual observer, let alone "rivet counters". I see your point in using the Kelly and changing the number; the Flyhawk kit is, overall, the much better kit.

Be careful of your sources. The J, K and N classes used exactly the same hull - identical dimensions. If you read the Wikipedia dimensions closely, Jervis gives an overall length (356 feet 6 inches), while Kelly gives the p/p dimension first (339 1/2 feet), followed by the same overall length as Jervis (356 1/2 feet). It was the L and M classes that were larger, but only by 6 feet (362.5 feet overall). Starting with the Tribals and the J class, leaders used the same hull as the rest of the flotilla, so no increased length there either.

Cool about LCS 10, even if it is a bit of a �repop� of LCS 2. In addition to the strike missles, it looks like they included the bridge wings that have been added to the Independence Class lately. Also glad to see dragon isn�t totally out of the ship market...

So a Jervis and a Kelly, except for (maybe!) some minor (and easily fixable) differences, were relatively identical? So that would make Aoshima Jervis irrelevant in view of Flyhawk Kelly? Just replace numbers with F00, or G00, depending on year?

Kelly doesn't seem to have worn a pennant number either.

That's because she spent all of her short career (except for the times she was being repaired) as a flotilla leader - and, as the policy was that leaders should not display pendant numbers, she would not be expected to wear hers. There are, however, many examples where this was not followed!

That clipper bow looks really exaggerated...and the kit will have to be much better than the Revell one to sell well - the Revell kit is pretty nice!

Honestly I was expecting something better

We saw the test fit at a Japanese hobby show a few months ago.



It looks like an all new tool with some features carried over from the 1/200.

I am going to buy it. I built the RoG version some years back when I was hand-painting everything but I've yet to built a Bismarck in any scale with my more developed skills.

I know everything thinks 'oh great, another Bismarck' but I think it does plug a major gap. RoG's kit has a few features I dislike plus it is becoming harder to find at a good price and the Tamiya kit and its clones are from an earlier epoch. Plus, it looks like Trumpeter is going to include a pretty comprehensive PE set in the box which is very exciting to me. The latest generation of Trumpeter/Hobby Boss ship kits are my favorite kits from any manufacturer and I really appreciate the fact that they now almost always come with a full set of railings specific to the kit.

Trumpeter still managed to miss the short inclined ladder from the back of the funnel searchlight platform to the 20mm AA platform! And I'm dubious about the two enclosed watch cabins on the open bridge.

RoG has the two watch cabins as plastic parts. These look easier to leave off.

It's possible that the ladders are present in the kit. Trumpeter has a habit of leaving their models unfinished at these displays. I'm guessing it may be because they may build the display model in a hurry or by committee. The C class cruiser on display two ships over was missing a lot of parts - seemed like a drop together job in the hotel room the night before. Who knows? Maybe that is how they put these models together for the shows.

Well... with all the oddball, random, esoteric stuff Trumpeter produces for us (Not complaining here! Absolutely thrilled we got *A* Schleswig-Holstein, nevermind TWO versions of it!), I can forgive them a mass-appeal money-maker to re-fill the coffers.
(The monthly poll for "What ship will Trumpeter have in their new release announcements?" is one I always chuckle at... Nine times out of ten (it seems), there is one... but it's a ship that isn't on the poll's suggested list!)

This is well put. In fact thanks to Trumpeter/HobbyBoss we can have a very varied and cool navy in 1/350:
- Danton class
- Lord Nelson class (Agamemnon too, with very cool livery options)
- Tsesarevich
- Schlesdwig-Holstein 1908
- Dreadnought
- Seydlitz
- Mikasa is also available from Hasegawa
- Gangut from Revell is also OK to add here (but do not dare to mention the horribly cast Borodino)
- all we need some early US 1/350 ships to the list in plastic...

All in plastic, all fairly reasonable 50 dollar price range + whatever accessories you want and in good casting quality and accuracy. I think this is a very respectable line up for anyone who likes ships that fought when they could see each other.
