Absolutely. Tracy White sent me some of Yorktown's documentation and one of the notations on page three of the departure report when Yorktown left Norfolk in December of '41 is "BI RADAR - completed".

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is a temporary radio mast. You can see one on Yorktown, as well, in the famous drydock photo of her at Pearl before Midway.

I've just checked the builder's plans and it's there labeled as a mast for an anchor light.

It's an unusual aspect of the ship. I'd love to have a larger resolution of this photo.

This is not an unusual detail. I've noticed on quite a few Booklet of General Plans of battleships (especially) that there is shown a mast with usually 3 lights that is added somewhere on the bridge of the ship which, in reality, is never actually constructed as shown or in the very least, is the builder's way of adding the usual navigation lights on a temporary basis (say thru acceptance trials) and then struck when the lamps are permanently placed in their normal positions on yardarms and pole mast extensions, etc.

Obviously in the late '30s and way before RADAR masts came into being, this temporary anchor light mast was erected to serve that purpose on carriers coming out of yard maintenance when extensive work or modernization occurred.

The temporary mast was a permanent feature used by the ships at times when transiting without aircraft operations or in port. You can see photos of this on other ships such as
CV-1 Langley or this on of CV-4 Ranger. It was retractable in most ships.

I will introduce myself.
My name is Gregory l live in Belgium I won't consider myself an expert but i really enjoy making models and dioramas
recently l made dioramas in scale 1/35 representing actual events either in Korea Vietnam or Desert Storm

soooo after a little research l decided to make a ship and my choice went to USS YORKTOWN CV5
I decided to represent the battle of Coral Sea... and the moment when Yorktown sealed back to Pearl Harbor....so i' consulting here to find inspiration and information.

Do you have any specific desires about "the moment?" Are you looking for Yorktown in the channel or maybe with a PT boat escort (such as this photo (Navsource) of her sister ship Hornet)?

what l was looking for was more.

1. how the planes were parked during the assessment of damage and the fire in the lower decks?
2. the leak of oil from port?
3. how extensive was the damage on the deck and on the front starboard (front guns)?
4. the bomb that hit the deck was there damage on the island and on the guns?

there you if anybody has pictures or comments on that i would really appriciate

This is a grab of this video, the url say's Hornet but the description claims Yorktown at Midway. The layout of the 1.1 guns and the island lead me to believe it is the Yorktown CV-5 but sometime in early 42, possibly at Coral Sea but not Midway based on aircraft markings.

You are right, this is not Midway. Could be YORKTOWN (Coral Sea?) or ENTERPRISE. But a number of the aircraft have the Red / White rudder stripes that were gone before Midway.

I haven't looked closely yet, but judging by the fabric canopy covers, I'd say its Enterprise. Halsey was obsessed with covering canopy glare while birds were on deck

They did indeed. Check out the Booklet of General Plans for CV-5. They show 10 of them in the overhead view.

I agree with Devin and that this is a sure bet this is the Enterprise early '42. These dashes with the numbers are consistent with the Enterprises's deck markings of the period. Although we now know the Yorktown had dash markings, these are not consistent with the few photos we have of them.

Ok Yorktown fans! Get out your linoleum brown paint. She ( not positive if it is her or not) is yet another US warship that had this color on her decks even after the war started. Can anyone positively identify this shot as CV-5?
