Re: Calling all MN Richelieu & Jean Bart fans
I am building the 1/700 trumpeter kit of the Richelieu. I dont know if the turrets are underscale like the 1/350 kit.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Its the 1/700 Richelieu (1943) front Trumpeter. Kit 05750.DavidP wrote:Will6631, what is the box number as I think my model kit untouched is by Trumpeter & I have the 1940 plans of her on my computer, 15.8mb in DjVu format if you want a copy?
I want to build the Richelieu with the camo of April 1944. But the 15inch turrets seems underscale.
Thanks DavidP.

Hello DavidP
The battleship Richelieu is a warship that I know well. I have good documentation.
The turret supports of 380mm has a diameter of 14150mm.
Either at 1/7000, a diameter of 20.21mm.
I have plans of the turrets.
For the 1943 camouflage, I have photos and diagrams of camouflages.
I advise you to look at the 1/350 scale model. it was based on my documentation.
If necessary, you can contact me by PM or email via the forum.
Take care of yourself.

Hello Seb,
Thanks for the information. So, the turrets are a bit undersclaled. The support turrets as a diameter of 20 mm (1/710).
Did you have informations of the camo of avril 1944 to january 1945?
Guillaume.

Hello Guillaume
Yes, the turrets are undersized.
2mm at 1/700, I find that it is done a lot.
A long time ago, I posted a detailed analysis of the 1/350 scale model. I think it is also valid at 1/700.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the text.
I have color profile of the first "Eastern Fleet" camouflage as well as some photos. The configuration of the battleship is the same as in 1943.

Some colour footage here from Toulon in 1962 including views of Jean Bart. She is seen being moved about by tugs, presumably shifting berths or something like that? She would have been withdrawn from the active fleet and in reserve by 1962:

Hello,
I ask a question that must have been asked before but when I see the news announced for 2021 at 1/200 ...
Can we believe in a production of battleships of the Dunkerque class and Richelieu class at 1/200 in the years to come by manufacturers such as Trumpeter or Hobby Boss?
Or is it a dream?

My understanding is that the 1/350 Richelieu did not sell very well so I would doubt that they would take the chance on a 1/200. Unfortunately as I would be interested in one!olive40 wrote:Hello,

Perhaps it didn't sell well because the manufacturer didn't do their research properly?Matt Flegal wrote:My understanding is that the 1/350 Richelieu did not sell very well so I would doubt that they would take the chance on a 1/200. Re: Calling all MN Richelieu & Jean Bart fans
If kit accuracy was a major determinant of sales, we wouldn't still be seeing Revell's 1/537 Missouri, Banner/MHM/Hobby Boss 1/350 Arizona, Revell 1/1200 Scharnhorst/Bismarck/anything being sold and built...
An argument could be made that Richelieu is a more obscure subject so those who buy it are probably more discerning, but that would require them to actually look up reviews and then care about the errors enough for them to not buy it versus having a kit (the only kit available!) with some acceptable errors.

Without playing the "Calimero"
, I think the Frenchies topics just don't interest Trumpeter.
If the Richelieu had sunk the Bismarck, we would probably not have this discussion today.
And that if the French fleet (supposedly so bad) had not landed in Toulon, some things would certainly have been different!
Without wanting to launch any debate.

Richelieu 3D Model:
https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/richeli ... del-sharedThe Richelieu was a French Richelieu-class battleship during World War 2. She was turned over the Free French Naval Forces after the Allied invasion of North Africa. After being sent to the United States for repairs and a refit, she served with the British Home Fleet. This model represents her layout after her refit in the USA.

A very handsome warship with interesting design features, shared with the Dunkirk's.

Regarding the 1/400 scale Jean Bart kit (which I've just purchased because I fancy the ship), are there available turrets in resin or 3d print that are accurate for Jean Bart during the 50's and 60's?

Were they much different from as-built? If not, MicroMaster has some wonderful prints: https://micromaster.co.nz/products/1-40 ... blast-bags

From my less than extensive research, I'm not certain. I can see that two different versions of the same turret (both with blast bags) are listed on that website. Both in 1/400 scale, both with the same descriptions. I believe much of her secondary armament is completely different from Richelieu

Re: Calling all MN Richelieu & Jean Bart fans
As regards the question on which version is correct for Jean Bart. Well it depends on the era. When substantially completed in 1950 (but with interim AA Armament of 40mm Bofors and 20mm Oerlikons) she had gun tubs for four 20mm Oerlikons atop her No. 2 Turret. Two pairs of two. These would have to be added in if you are depicting her in 1950. Not the best photo but you can see the tubs here:
https://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=1491
As finally commissioned in 1955 the 20mm Oerlikon Tubs were removed from the turret as by this stage she had her full design AA Armament of 100mm AA Guns and 57mm Bofors Guns as seen here:
https://www.deviantart.com/stephenbarlo ... -559813254
The main gun turrets remained like this until she was scrapped in 1970.
