Looks like its coming along from the last time I checked in. Any thoughts on when it might be done?

Sorry about that. Im just waiting the the Marlborough. Nothing against the Vic geoff. I know you have wanted to build her a long time before the Marlb.

Marlborough will be back on the blocks, sometime around October, for a winter build, which I should then have finished ready for next Spring. Meanwhile I need to get the Vic sailing for July 2nd and complete it for September.

Today, I took the Vic down to our lake so that I could test her for ballasting. She weighs in at just under 15lbs as she stands at the moment. Ballasted to the waterline, including the two 12 volt gel cell batteries (7lbs each), she needed a furher 35lbs of lead, so up to press with ballast it weighs 64lbs. There are two more motors, three speed controllers, receiver, 12 volt lighting battery (3lbs) to go in yet, plus all the gun turretts, other fittings and some more superstructure work, plus a dozen di-cast planes for the flight deck to be fitted. This should allow me to drop the ballast by about 5 to 8 lbs.

Here are the results of the first ballast test, as she stands so far.

Further ballasting and sailing test will take place mid June and more pictures of her in the water will be posted then.

As I post this my planes have just arrived from Corgi,

so expect more photos later tonight.

Part of the first two squadrons have just flown in and all made a successful landing.

Eight Corsairs........Four of these will be adapted to folding wing display

Four Hurricanes.......These will be left with fixed wings.

These models come with stands, to display them as in flight models, theirfore there is no landing gear on them. As they are to be displayed on deck, I will have to make up the struts and wheels, by using brass rod and wheels from some small model cars, which can be picked up cheap from a car boot sale.

So here are the first shots of the planes aboard the Vic. I have just arranged them in different poses for these photos for the time being.

It's now back to the rest of the build, I have still quite a lot to do before the end of June, so work should now continue, at a faster pace than of late.

Thats some good radar you have there in photo 6,

its looking better each day, the aircraft look good, even better with there wheels on.

She looks lovely on the water - I can't wait to see her in action. And she'll be even better once those Corsairs have been "abducted" by the Fleet Air Arm.

Cheers Andy. I agree with you on the Corsairs, they need respraying in a darker blue or maybe grey. I'm not sure what colour they were as I don't have any colour photos of a Corsair. The Hurricanes look ok in Black, so they won't need altering.

Been on this site before Dave, but forgot that it does give a few colour pictures of some of the aircraft used by the R.N. For the Corsairs, I have found a few interesting colour schemes and I particularly like the one with the yellow nose cone. I reckon repainted in this sceme, my Corsairs will look much better. All I need now is the paint and some suitable bullseye transfers for 1/100 scale. I have some small lettering decals, but I need the bullseyes.

Here are a few of the coulour schemes.

This last one of a Hurricane is more or less similar to what I have.

Hi guys, back again with another update on the Vic

I WILL get the superstructure finished, but somehow I tend to get side tracked into doing other jobs. It's getting done bit by bit though, that's the main thing.

This time I have been adding some of the armament to the starboard side. I started by making up the 4.5 inch turetts. These were already casted in resin, so all I had to do was attach the gun barrels. These are cast in white metal and after cleansing them up wirh a small file and emery paper, they came up pretty good. I was going to use small bore alloy tube, but after tidying up the first pair of barrels successfully, I decided to use the castings instead.

Here you can see one of the turetts, turned upside down, with a locating bolt glued into it.

I then marked out the position on the gun platforms and drilled the holes for the locating bolts. These are secured from underneath by a nut and washer and are tightened sufficiently, so that they will turn. I might link these up with rods eventually, so they can be operated by a servo.

These are the aft pair of turetts, mounted on their platform.

I also made up the rear 40" Searchlight and the 4.5" gun director and fitted these to their respective platforms.

Next made up and fitted the front two Pom Pom mounts, but these are not very good fittings. I intend to change these at a later date, but they will have to do for now, as I want it looking almost finished for July 2nd.

Then the front pair of 4.5" guns were fitted.

Just the forward searchlight to fit yet on this side, apart from some armament on the Island and this side is complete as far as guns go.

Here are a few shots of the completed work, over the weekend. I have also given the flight deck, it's first coat of dark grey, just to cover up the bare wood.

Hopefully I should have the port side done in a few more days. Then I WILL get back to doing more work on the Island.

Time for another update on the Vic.

A bit more work has been done on the Island and I started off by making up the mast. This was made from different diameters of alluminium tube, styrene and a nice round empty pill container, that was just the right diameter for the type 72 DM Homing Beacon ( that's the round drum, just above the lower platform).

The funnel received a bit more attention, by having the bird nest framing added, this was made from 1mm brass wire. The mast behind the funnel is the RDF telescopic mast, which still has to have more work done to it ( and I have made it telescopic too).

Here you can see the main mast in position, with the tripod struts. It has not yet been fixed, as more work has to be done on it and it makes it easier doing this off the model.

Further work on the superstructure has been done, the Signal House has been placed on top of D deck, part of the Tactical Navigation Rangefinder, another Pom Pom Directer and one of the four 4.5" Gun Directors.

I saw the start of your project on another forum and am impressed with you efforts so far. I only wish I had the same skill, time, and space to do my boats, but yo've given me some inspiration where desperation was creeping in.

More work has been done on the Island superstructure and there is still more to do yet. Anyway, here are the latest additions that were done today.

A few fittings have been added to the Open Bridge Wings and Admirals Viewing Platforms above, they are Binocular stands, Binnical & Compass Repeaters.

More work has been done on the mast, I have added the ladders, and platform support brackets.

The rear high level Pom Pom Gun has been added to it's platform.

Various instruments have been added to the top mast, including wind vane and radar scanner (this did not appear on the Vic until a later refit, but it adds to the overall look of the model).

I will leave you with a few overall shots of the Island and more work will be done tomorrow, such as guard rails etc.

I get giddy myself Kenny, fitting everything and the Vic's Island is only small compared to the superstructure on the Marlborough. Just think, I have all what Ron has done, to do yet.
