The Tegetthoff class was a class of four dreadnought battleships built for the Austro-Hungarian Navy.
Named for Austrian Admiral Wilhelm von Tegetthoff, the class was composed of SMS Viribus Unitis, SMS Tegetthoff, SMS Prinz Eugen, and SMS Szent Istv�n.

I am looking forward to seeing these in Trumpeter 1/350 scale. Hopefully some aftermarket manufacturers will produce wood decks and super detail sets to go with them. For reference there are plenty of photos of the Tegetthoff Class Battleships on the US Naval History and Heritage Command Website.

Including this interesting one from 1915 that appears to show Szent Istvan with lighter coloured upperworks and 'Caesar' Turret? compared to the remainder of the hull and the other main gun turrets: (I am not sure was the Austro-Hungarian gun turret naming convention the same as the German one?)

Unfortunately they seem to have made a schoolboy error with the decals and have the Austro-Hungarian Naval Ensign the wrong way around the flagpole. The Imperial Crown should be nearest the flagpole on both sides of the flag and not further away from it as Trumpeter have depicted:

Still looking forward to seeing it in 1/350 plastic though. Along with Szent Istvan. Hopefully someone produces an aftermarket set for her and includes a corrected Naval Ensign.

Seems like a easy thing to fix - fold as usual, but stick the line between the sides on the open end, then cut off the excess white part on the closed end.

True Timmy you could try that. Still though, a silly schoolboy error by Trumpeter.

That said I'm really looking forward to the kit. Great to see it in 1/350 plastic. Hoping for a Pontos or similar standard of aftermarket set and wood deck for it too.

If you have Amazon Prime, look up "Death at Dawn," a documentary on the sinking of the Szent Istvan. Lots of good old footage.

There are some lovely crisp clear photos in it that perhaps came from glass plate negatives. They are beautifully clear. It also gives a map of the Austro-Hungarian Fleet Anchorage at Pola including mooring locations for all the Tegetthoff Class Dreadnoughts. Useful considering that is where they spent most of the war.

Not really - the bibliography misses what is most probably the very best single reference:

Friedrich Prasky, Die Tegethoff-Klasse: Modellbau, Technik, Geschichte. (Mittler Verlag Osterreich, 2000)

Prasky is a professional modelmaker who was involved in the restoration of the 6.5m-long cutaway model now in the Heeresgeschichtlichen Museum in Vienna. Colour images from the model, drawings from the archives and by Prasky that he used for his own models, detail diagrams, the list goes on. I've looked at the Kagero publication and it fails to match the sheer depth and accuracy of Prasky's work.

You do have to live with the fact that it's written in Austrian German! And you probably will have to actually buy it (but, quite often, you get what you pay for when you rely on free internet information).

Interesting Maurice, I suppose if you don't speak German you are unlikely to come across it. Seems to be out of print at the moment. Would be nice if it were re-issued, especially with the 1/350 Viribus Unitis and Szent Istvan on the way shortly.

Good news, hopefully it will be a nice detailed set. It is fitting that Eduard are doing it, them being a Czech company as the guns on the actual Tegetthoff Class Battleships came from �koda's Pilsen Works situated in present day Czechia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Now all we need is a wood deck.

It has been released yes, I had mine pre-ordered from Hannants in the UK and received it back in September. They did not seem to get very many of them into regular stock though so they disappeared out of stock again shortly thereafter. No idea why that is?

A quick search as I type this message at 22:50 Irish time on December 3rd reveals that it seems to be still in stock at Modellbau Koenig in Germany:
