Neh that doesn't matter! Fits in pretty nicely in that section too, I'm sure we can learn a lot from it and I'm also pretty sure that more people visit that board. But of course you should first ask Mr. ARH.

If you need any pictures, just let me know. I have some book of the Admiral Gorshkov, in Russian, but it has plenty of drawings and pictures. Also of the Yaks I used to have plenty of colour pictures, but I'll have to check whether I still kept them after my Minsk build.

Thanks for the offer I'll bear that in mind. In fact I did consider scratch building the Gorshkov at 1:100 but I have plans for Kiev and the kit come up so what was it. I just couldn't miss the opportunity. Incidently I made a mistake , the Yaks are 36s and not 38s as stated . The kit comes complete with SS-N-12 launches , Head Light array , Top Sail, Top knot , Top Steer 2x Owl Skreech and the 2x 76.2mm turrets.

Hi Spikesliew Yes the Book well it will be about 2 years from conception to publication. Having a copy of PC Cokes superb "Building Warship Models" inspired me to have a fresh look at how PC approched the subject. My co Author is a guy called Bill Clarke from around Hampton roads and a good friend of Mr Coker.So with his blessings we've come up with a slightly different approch. The First Chapter is devoted to the full size ship. many of the pictures having never been seen befor. This is followed by a look ,as PC did at the industrial models from around the world and again with the help of many good people we have accumulated some superb pictures of models that are simply breathtaking . The third part of the book is a how to but with plenty of examples of scratch building semi scratch and kit. The thrust of this publication is mainly working models. I hope my resume helps and here is what the cover will look like.

Hi Ron Yep I'm pleased that Kiev is to stay in scratch build and I'll make sure Bill puts his monogram to the book he'll be only to pleased. Now I have both Neptune and ARH making sure I don't go to sleep on my perch.

running gear for KIEV. I'm really pleased with the results.
This includes props , A frames and shafts. For any one
needing to know more G SITEK has a web site

Hi Neptune I have just about all the hardware but need to get the couplings for the motors to shafts . I have never built a carrier before so I relish the challenge and it's the one carrier that over the years I have said that if I ever build such a warship it will be Kiev . As for the book , I see it's on Amazon in fact they even give a hefty discount but alas it's not available just yet.

I'm looking forward to this build as well, AFTER you've made Z39, HMS Mars/Majestic and finished the Rurik. I shall watch with avid interest as you try to fit an almost 7' model into a Ford Mondeo, and get the superstructure in as well.....without damage.

Do you intend doing a 'Bill Wilkinson' and sitting in the thing (I use the word 'Thing' in all context)?

What scale are you doing the Kiev in? A fellow member of Plymouth MBC, Charles Sells, did 2 1/192nd Novorissisks, one of which is at the Child Beale museum and the other at Plymouth. He also published plans and a Marine Modeling article on it - I can dig out the reference if it helps.

Hi Francis I remember Charles Sells building his Novorossiysk as I was building Moskva at the same time. I have seen his model on display at Child Beal and it looks very impressive. The Kiev build is 1:144 scale and it's a project that I have had on the back burner for 20 years, it's taken that long to amass sufficent photos to make the project viable. originally I intended to scratch build but a GRP hull became available and , well here we are. Many thanks for your kind offer much appreicated however I like your self retained the original article from Marine Modeller International. thanks again

Just to keep you all up dated on the KIEV. Project I�ve been diligently amassing as much material as needed, ready to make a start in the first week of January. I know this is no straight forward project and will need a fair degree of thought particularly were the hull is concerned . Any way that's my excuse. Interestingly at one time and perhaps out of frustration at being unable to get hold of 1:144 scale Yak 38s I thought of ditching the KIEV but converting the hull and build the Indian Navy Viramaditya with the full air group of Mig 29Ks in 1:144 as these can be converted from Mig 29 which are readily available. Supposedly the air group to be embarked on the IN carrier . Alas the technical information is sketchy to say the least and for KIEV I have that wonderful asset, plenty of good photographic information. Any way just for the record here is some pictures of the Viramaditya or how it should appear when completed. Any one tempted?

If they would build as slow as you the Indians would already have their own carrier before having Vikramaditiya

Now you can start cutting the bow sonar away and put the sidewalk in place! They are some steps ahead of you Dave!!!
I'm pretty curious about pictures of your Kiev though...
