1/72 Admiral Kuznetzov

Hit a snag with my deck so before I make a mess want to talk with the guys at Wagga tomorrow. I tried using a Twist-a-saw to cut the straight parts of the deck with mixed results. I may have to go back to my original idea of trimming, straight parts of the deck with a hand held belt sanded. This is a slow process but will give me the desired result of a neat fit. So if all goes well this coming week will see parts of the deck finally appear. I'll say one thing, it's a big model to learn how the construct this monster. At least I can pass the ideas I have learn t to the Frunze and Stergy and back to the Kuznetsov.

Well the deck has been made and some panels cut out and fitted. Next step bolting it down to the hull The fun part is making sure the damn thing is level, no kinks or slopping to one side or another. Feedback welcome.

A few more pictures. Now how to attach in a way that is solid but able to remove also simply. Looks like a new get together again in Wagga.

The port side still needs to be cut back but I wait for now till it's attached.

It,s been a while since I posted something here.
I have be slowly working on the deck attachment to the hull. So far not much luck but still trying different things.
In the last 6mts I've had a cover of snow on the model. Then followed by a heat wave, wait for it. Then the bush fires which came with in 800 meters. and now we have flooding rain. Anyone wanna help me with my model which is outdoors with a canvas cover, Blood knows whats next.

Also I was contacted by a Mario Soldini in Lugano - Switzerland. If you know this person get them to send me an email so that I can help him with the plans he asked for.

What exactly is the problem with the deck attachment? Too much flexing? thermal expansion?

HI Mick regards deck deck attachment to the hull have you treid magnets as that's what I use to hold my decks down an they come in all different sizes an strengths an yes I know your deck I a heck of a lot bigger than mine but have you treid them ?

Thanks Boatman. Yes I have thought about the idea and it could get me out of problems. The model has cone to a halt due to not being able to work on the model. COVID19 I live at one end of town and my garage is at the other end and since we cant travel well you get the idea.
Mind you if things get really bad I might even sell her off. Currently building plastic aircraft for the ship in my apartment. What a mess it is to work on a table and below carpet. Try drop something and then to find it again. Many a parts lost into my carpet.

HI Mick yes the carpet monster has a lot to answer four as ive found out an yes this virus is messin everything up an sorry to hear you cant do your boat as if you could it would help pass the time but we will have to grin an bear it im afraid an im lucky my ship is up in my model room so no worryies for me on that but its getting harder to get the bits I need for my tiger but I will do something eles like you are doin on the aircraft what planes are you building ? an the magnets are on ebay if you do want any as ive just bought some for tiger

It is my sad duty to pass on the news that Mick Elst has passed away, he died peacefully in his sleep (possibly on the weekend as he did not show up for work on Monday, and was found by his sister when she checked om him) Mick had battled with bad diabette's most of his life but had not shown any signs of ill health.

He was a passionate builder of all kinds of ships from Sydney Harbour ferry's, to his giant Kirov and Kuznetzov, he was a talented photographer, often taking 500+ shots during a club event. Mick was always eager to pass on his Dad's Russian warship drawings and plans at outrageously cheap prices for the fat binder of plans and info. He was always cheerful and had a cheeky sense of humour.

We will miss you at Task Force 72 events mate, but your huge collection of pixs will live on to remind us of your talents.
