Domestic shipbuilders will build three Tuo Chiang-class missile corvettes and four fast minelaying ships by 2021. It will be the first phase of a program to mass-produce a world-class naval fleet at local shipyards. The program was announced by the Republic of China Ministry of National Defense (MND) on 12 April 2010. It was developed by the Naval Shipbuilding Center in Kaohsiung. The Tuo Chiang class was developed to address common weakness of traditional small warships such as patrol craft and corvettes namely poor sea-keeping, a significant handicap for warships expected to sortie for extended periods of time in rough seas around Taiwan.
The Tuo Chiang-class corvette is a Taiwanese-designed class of fast and stealthy multi-mission corvettes built for the Republic of China (Taiwan) Navy. It is designed to counter the numerous and increasingly sophisticated People's Liberation Army Navy ships by utilizing hit-and-run tactics, and thus featured clean upper structure design with very few extrusions to reduce radar signature, pre-cooled engine exhaust to reduce infrared signature, and a reduced visual signature to reduce chance of detection. The new Tuo-chiang will enhance the Navys stealth capabilities and weapons systems. They will be equipped with the Hsiung Feng anti-ship missiles, which are dubbed the aircraft carrier killers. The project will also add four fast minelayers to upgrade the Navys fleet.

Tso-Juei Hsu 09 May 2021
Taiwan's upgraded Tuo Chiang-class corvette, "Ta Chiang", started sea trial on May 3.
On March 9, 2021, a Taiwanese military magazine reported that a 76mm gun and 3D radar system are installed to the second Tuo Chiang-class corvette, Ta Chiang.
On April 21, an independent journalist based in Yilan, (where the shipbuilder Lungteh Shipbuilding is located) reported that Ta Chiang came out from the shipyard, and a STIR (Signal Tracking and Illumination Radar) fire control radar was installed in the top of the bridge of the ship.
On May 3, Ta Chiang was spotted conducting sea trial for the first time by the Taiwanese military magazine and the independent journalist. According to the reports, a captain of a local fishing ship operating near the water where Ta Chiang conducted trial on the day, said that the warship sailed at an extremely high speed: It looked like a car moving at 120kms/h speed on the land if you watch it at a near distance
According to Lungteh Shipbuilding, The Tuo Chiang-class corvettes have a length of 60.4 meters, displacement of 685 tons, a range of 1,800 nautical miles, and a maximum speed of 43 knots.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) Taiwanese military personnel have announced that the latest Tuo Chiang-class corvette, the Ta Chiang, has completed operational evaluations and will be handed over to the Navy on Wednesday (July 28).
The ship, which will be transferred to the Navy at Suao Port, features the all-new Sea Sword II air defense system, which was developed by the National Chung Shang Institute of Science and Technology. The Da Chiang will be officially commissioned in August, CNA reported.
The military said the combat capabilities of the Tuo Chiang-class ships had been demonstrated by the corvette prototype, the Tuo Chiang. During a Navy missile-firing drill off the coast of Jiupeng Air Force Base in July 2018, the Tuo Chiang launched a Hsiung Feng III missile, which successfully hit its target before the tracking system could even lock onto it.
