The printed stanchions are fairly flexible, at least with the resin I am using. Thread couldn't be used and the rigidity (compared to thread) is necessary. With rigid stanchions thread would go around sharp corners better. I did a 1:550 model of Whithurst (DE) and made very nice lifelines with material supplied from a long haired girlfriend.
Yes the LSM's used a below the waterline antifouling system of coatings. Some research will be necessary but from the B&W photos using panchromatic film, it appears hull red was used.
Up the kilt shot from NAVSOUCE. A fairly unusual skeg, prop and rudder series, especially the horizontal bar.
Todays small advancements was constructing the central skeg, which with the bar and rudders looks much like an art deco twin engine airplane (pointing backwards) and installing along with the gusseted stern plate. Also installed the remainder of the superstructure deck outboard stanchions, if not the rail. The curb along the sides of the Tank Deck installed but not yet the ribs, which are very similar reinforcements to the ones external to the hull.
Currently printing a pair of 1:133 Jeeps and curing a M4 medium tank in that scale.
26 foot Motor Whaleboat, similar to one I ran as a youngster. Not only did we have a tiller, a bell was used to communicate "engine orders" to the Motor mech.
Alaska needed a pair of these in 1:192, Missouri of my era used a newer fiberglass hull with a different shape, but I printed this one in 1:120 and may find a couple of free sq cm on the APA. The 1:120 version can use a little more detail not as useful on the 1:192.
The small central hole on the engine cover is a typical effect of 3D printing a flat surface parallel to the FEP film. It seems that a bubble is often created there, only one!
Thanks for a good hint!! This one is a trial puppy, a few changes necessary. I find some discrepancies in various drawings as to the position of the engine cover, cleats and whatnot.
Well, that's an interesting point (er...hole!! ) - I will have to keep that in mind. I didn't see that when I printed my boats today.
I can only add once again that this 3D stuff is a new medium and much to be learned once you've been sucked into it.

Progress today, mostly her the lifelines in place, some trimming and adjustment needed still. Two M4's and an M36 in the well deck. I'll probably jam the place up tanks and jeeps etc. Capacity was 5 medium tanks.
Trial Danforth Anchors for the bow position (LSM), photographed on the "Quarter" deck. Surprisingly I am not finding photos clear enough to accurately gauge the size on these. Lots of photos, bad ones...
Minor progress, applying the rub strips on the interior bulkheads of the tank deck, a somewhat tedious but not impossible job with the lifelines installed. Designed and currently printing the Stern Anchor Bracket, with anchor attached. Have printed a couple of more jeeps with trailers. Maybe I'll get the Anchor Bracket attached tomorrow, maybe.
In a search to see haw far down rabbit holes this project can go, trying to produce a DUWK "Duck". This one is a primary experimental print in primer to see how things need to be adjusted in the printing process while I evaluate and add more detail in the design file. A pretty large vehicle, just six feet shorter than a 36' LCVP! They can carry as cargo such items as a 75 PACK Howitzer or a Jeep!

The large drawings that I have I printed on a very stable heavyweight archival photo paper (by Moab). I scale everything from these drawings using a very accurate digital caliper. The lifeline posts are a scale 41 1/2 inches and the top wire at about a scale 40". This is a little taller than the usual pipe rail which is 38" at the top rail. The drawing clearly shows the gun tubs to be slightly lower than the life lines. Unusually three of the four 20 mm tubs have no backs and just a chain rail (the overhang of the platform could fold up). The drawing also shows fairly low tubs for the fwd 40 mm and associated Mk 52 director. My only guess is perhaps the tubs were low such that the weapons could be depressed for close in firing at the beach? If these were of a heavier STS plating, top weight might have been a consideration. Also only double or single "rail" construction was used. The narrowness of the superstructure decks also contribute to a appearance of a high height ratio.
I found this photo of a LSM crew on the internet. Note the backless Gun tub and the drop in height of the wire rail. Not conclusive proof, but I think, for whatever reason my drawings are correct.
Something I haven't figured out as yet is the small inclined rack on the port side, holding what appears to be a round drum about the size of a depth charge and some vague note on my plans about a release lever. It's amazing that even these small ships were equipped with Radar, but certainly not Sonar. However your AO had a K gun?

As much as I'm finding various items on STODDARD that were NOT piece & parcel for the usual 2100 ton DD, it could be that LSM types also were given individual items to test, etc. and see if there was value in adding to their inventory (or not).
