Just to be the Devil's Advocate, I'm going to float this thread to the top of the bowl.

The Zumwalt class hulls are 180m (or 198 yards).

These three AIRFIX E-Boat lower hulls are 17.25" long.
Image

They look suspiciously close to the Zumwalts.
ImageImage

Surplus AIRFIX hull lengths 17.25" = 1.4375'
Zumwalt real-life length 198 yds / translated to 1:144th scale = 1.375'

Add a sonor bulb, they'd be just about right as a starting point.

Unless someone was Hell-bent on doing a 1:96th scale build.
https://barracudarcboats.mysimplestore. ... -destroyer

They're supposed to have 2 SH-60 LAMPS helicopters or 1 MH-60R helicopter.

Ooooooooooooooooooooh no no no - I've got enough projects on the blocks.

Any of you out there who'd like one of these lower hulls, PM me. We'll make a deal-deal.

Note: the Chinese PLAN's Type 055 is the same length.

Hi,

Here's my Zummie, full scratch in 1:200.

It is made compeletely styrene sheet, the cheap one intented to signboards. Bottom planking is 2 mm and frames 1,5 mm sheet, hull sides 1,5 mm, decks and superstructure mainly 1 mm sheet.

Its is not hard work to do this kind of hull properly by yoursef, it took only couple of weeks:)

Dragon's releasing an updated version of their 1/700 Zumwalt kit with 3D printed parts to incorporate the modifications to the superstructure post-delivery: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10743131

For the record, they have two 18' 5 blade fixed pitch propellers. I've seen them.

And that pic's from the June 2016 Christening ceremony for DDG 1001 Michael Monsoor, available at Navsource: http://www.navsource.org/archives/05/011001.htm

(of course, we didn't have these pics to reference during those earlier ~2015 discussions in this thread)

This kit has been released and is shipping. Mine arrived last week. Dragon #7148, USS Lyndon B. Johnson, DDG-1002.

DDG-1002 is still under construction in Bath, Maine. Well-documented technical challenges with the first two ships of the class indicate that armament and radar suites are still in development, so the current fit of the Zumwalt Class is rather hard to pin down at the moment.

All parts for the initial release are included. No changes to the superstructure molds, so the superstructure tiles remain over-scale and must be addressed. Four-bladed propellers are incorrectly included in the Zumwalt and Johnson editions of this kit.

What's new are 3D printed parts for the top of the superstructure, radars and Bushmaster guns for above the stern flight-deck. Nicely detailed, but a tightly packaged glassine envelope for these parts distorted the small antennae for the top-of-superstructure piece.

In effect, this kit, despite box art referencing DDG-1002, is only a correct fit for the Zumwalt itself (I'm not up-to-date on how the Monsoor was fitted or what is planned for the Johnson).

New instructions. Several openings on the superstructure are meant to be filled before installing 3D parts.

Basic decals for all three ships of the class.

I'm not very up-to-date on the Zumwalts, but it's my wife's maiden name...which means I have to build a handful. From the LBJ boxing, the new superstructure top (new mast) is clearly to be used for an up-to-date Zumwalt. The instructions have you use the Bushmaster's on the flight deck roof only for DDG-1001/2. It seems from pictures, they should be on the Zumwalt too? And the instructions have you add the new 3D printed side panels to the superstructure for all 3 ships, which seems to be correct? Any feedback if I have this right? Thank you!

Yep, that all sounds right to me - 30mm Bushmasters have been installed on the first two, as have the extra SATCOM platforms/domes to the sides of the superstructure. As far as I have been following, all three should look the same as the first ship, though LBJ is still waiting for her final hangar-top guns and mods to the superstructure, so those might still change. All of Dragon's modifications are based on the first ship.

Thank you!

And for those who may not have seen this, looks like there's a 1/350 kit on the way...

Never heard of Snowman Models before, but it looks like Takom will be distributing the kit. Seems decent from the renders. And I know it's hard to compare 1/350 and 1/700, but the Dragon kit honestly kind of sucks for what is in the kit.

Has anyway seen pictures of the Zumwalt with her ship's crest anywhere (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... _Crest.png). Dragon includes this as a decal in their 1/700 kit, indicating it should be placed on the sides of the superstructure. I have not been able to find any picture showing this.

Hi All, Have just received my 1/350 Snowman Models (Takom) USS Zumwalt. A large kit, 20 inches without the bulbous bow, very fine detail and only 6 sprues. Comes with etch, decals for all 3 ships and 3D printed parts with metal barrels. Hopefully the pic I took as reference is below. The instructions are a small booklet but I cant see that there is a paint reference guide, not that its really needed. Cheers.
