Interesting map of the wanderings of the magnetic Pole! In aviation it shows up in the migration of the magnetic declination changes on charts and reflected in the changing numbering of runways. For example a runway with a magnetic heading of 82 degrees would be RWY 08. After a while it might become RWY 09. Having flown the polar routes many times over the years our inertial navigation equipment (Ring Laser Gyros) backed up by GPS North of 72 Deg changed to TRUE and split inertial nav so that we had two separate inertial systems, which could and did disagree a bit. The GPS at high altitudes drops it's usability. Back in the "Got Gammel Dags" we used "Grid Nav" in high latitude. My Friend Sverr Pederson's dad developed high Latitude Nav for SAS to pioneer commercial over the pole service.

A lot of the conformation of the oceanic spread and continental drift came from magnetic reversals, which occur from time to time, where the polarity of the poles swap. It is possible that we are approaching a polar reversal. The effect on the protection of earths magnetic field from solar radiation during such a time is not well known.

I remember transiting out of PSNS on Sacramento (AOE1) where the navigator had pre selected waypoints as shown on his charts such as Fog horn's, buoys etc and the port and starboard pelorus would take bearings and the navigator would plot the position, mostly as a CYA exercise in the area that was buoyed in Rich Passage, but more valuable once on the open waters of Puget Sound to adhere to the pre plotted course, identify the timing of turning points etc.

The FAA has shortened the update intervals for navigation charts. We came back from a trip to Asia and the approaches to RWY 06L&R were now 07 L&R!

Thank you Tom for these clarifications and very interesting information not well known by the general public.

I'm coming to the end now, I'm trying to erase all the small defects when possible and to draw small details.

Here the navigation lights, the foghorn, improvement of the stern tube connection, sacrificial zincs etc..

Fresh potatoes, even in sacks, are more beloved than the powdered kind. The most interesting thing about her was the power plant, which was pulled from the graveyard of uncompleted Iowa's and split in halves. At least in that time frame there were enough WWII veteran Chiefs that knew how to operate those power plants. I never did get to visit the engineering spaces. mid-late 60's and just for a transit PSNS-San Diego.

Small fire drill this morning. :)

It took me a while to find this style of fire cannon in pictures. This model is still made in China, in 1:1 scale, a classic on ships since more than 70 years.

The only difference is that it can project physical foam now, thanks to an ejector integrated in the gun.

I still have some corrections to make.

I've made a pleasure to detail the gate valve, it can be used for other ships/impressions.

An example at 1:1 scale

The fire cannon will be placed on the top of the bridge of the tug.

It was pointed out to me that this was a flap valve in the photos, so I quickly drew this type of valve with the plan I had posted above.

One more accessory in the drawing stock. :)

I'd love to find some fire monitors, like this, in 1/700.

Nevada was run aground at Hospital Point, conned by Ensign Joseph Taussig. She was run aground to prevent possible blocking of the entrance channel at Pearl, which could have bottled up the fleet for many months. He was son of Vice Admiral Joseph K Taussig.

At an advanced fleet base, which Pearl was at the time, fire fighting capability on the tugs made sense.

I was not sure about the shape of the cannon's lance at that time. It appears to have several setting cones on the end probably to set the cannon to the pressure pump.

I just found this image, it will allow me to modify.

Don't most tugs have one or more fire-fighting monitors to this day ? One sees them frequently in action during some kind of celebration or another.

I didn't follow all the steps of this project (unfortunately), but the result is, as usual, rather impressive !

Nokomis had only one fire gun at the beginning and during Pearl Habor attack. It seems that the tugs were better equipped after the attack with an additional platform on the stern, Hoga too.

Preparing a test print of the waterline hull, a first for me. It requires a little preparation in terms of drawing, including a good classification of the different parts.

I'm only printing the hull for the moment, the fittings will be printed separately. This will allow me to check the fitting of the 2 parts for the 1/100 in full hull.

First we have to make a cut! :)

The ship is 87 mm long at 1/350.
