Thank you, once again, for your kind offer.
You are most welcome. ;-)

There you have a link to a couple of shots. Would you be interested in anything in particular, don't hesitate, I will be more than happy to make them.

Anyway, as you will see, Very Fire definitely comes out of the box a little better. Vee Hobby catches when PE is applied. Both of them are ahead of Tamiya (not surprisingly as it's a 20 years old kit now...which stays in the race when the Flyhawk set is being used).
Thank you so much for that.

You were right with your previous advice regarding the price levels as, on 'Hobby Link Japan', the cost of the basic Vee Hobby version is very near to that of Very Fire's model.

Anyway, just to let you know that, today, I went ahead and ordered the Very Fire one from DawnGroceryStore (along with the FlyHawk HMS Penelope).

Thank you once again :thumbs_up_1:

Dan Kaplan pointed out that the Academy USS Yorktown (CV-5) kit is listed on Hobby Search:

https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10874927

A quick look and compare with their Enterprise kit, that I'm currently building, shows that it's almost completely a simple rebranding of the same kit. It looks like there's some differences in the port side gun galleries (but not correct differences), but the rest of the kit looks almost identical. Too bad, but expected.

Had a two page spread in the January issue of Model Art.
Sites like HLJ should start accepting reservations tomorrow. Up on the Interallied site, scheduled for May release, 56,000 Yen ($500ish) MSRP

http://shopping.interallied.co.jp/model ... 140-1-200/

(think I posted this twice, once not logged in if that can be deleted somehow)

Edit: And it is up! https://www.hlj.com/1-200-scale-japanes ... to-irda140

44,800 Yen price on HLJ.

Since it is a Monochome brand, I assume it will be available under another Trumpeter's for the rest of the world. That may help with the shipping cost at least...

I, for one, am ecstatic about this news. What is essentially a Trumpeter Yamato - I'm very happy this is happening. :thumbs_up_1: :woo_hoo:

Although not a new kit, it is a much welcomed re-release;

Revell's 1/700 RMS Queen Mary 2 - first released in 2010 and since then nigh unobtainable - has began hitting the shelves once again, for anybody interested in civilian/maritime subjects. I got one from my local after they put one on order for me.

Pick one up if you don't have one in the stash already: great kit for the money and size and being such a rare subject, it's sales could do us some favours in getting us more famous liners... but I'm biased like that.

Waouh ! Was already on the market when I was a kid, half a century ago :rolf_3:
Anyway, at that time, I did not buy it. Maybe now, who knows .... :?:
It would be nicer if Heller was issuing real new items, like FREMM, Horizon destroyers, Mistral or any other European ship not yet offered to us

80 EUR for a kit first molded in 1968...sheesh. I guess the size is something.

My modelling interest centres on 20th century warships in 1/700 scale, covering the World War I and World War II periods and, I'm ashamed to say, I'm guilty of not really keeping up with releases in 1/350.

However, the other day I was on the Trumpeter website and I was quite surprised by the fair number of subjects, in this latter scale, which are only 'trickling down' very slowly into their 1/700 realm (I say trickling down but, at the moment, this feels almost a drought).

They've got the US carriers Sangamon, Langley and Ranger, the UK cruisers Colombo, Calcutta, York and Exeter, three of the four Zara class (I suppose Pola is omitted because of the different hull shape at the forecastle break), plus Szent Istvan, Viribus Unitis, Tashkent and Schleswig Holstein to name some, none of which seem to be in evidence in 1/700.
This got me wondering if Trumpeter are slowly phasing out their 1/700 interest.

I surmise that, given the price differentials between the two scales in question, the profit margins are far great in 1/350 than 1/700.

I also wonder if their existing, sizeable 1/700 portfolio is still continuing to sell well, even though many of the subjects have been around for a fair while now and if this is a dissuader from needing to produce much, if anything, new at the moment ??

The 'conspiracy theory' which appeals to me the most is that, given the 1/700 painstaking superiority in detail and quality of FlyHawk releases, Trumpeter are rightly wary of releasing anything which might compare unfavourably and are taking the time to try 'get their act together'.

However, at the end of the day what do I know ?? I could be spouting a load of rubbish and talking out of the back of my head :Mad_6: , but I just wish some of the tasty models I listed above, could find their way into the world of 1/700, no matter how flawed they may or may not be.

Cheers Dave, well said.
I share your concern to some degree; although I feel the rather wide gulf in degree of difficulty between Trumpeter and Flyhawk leaves some room for duplication. I must admit that given identical kits from both, I might well be satisfied with the Trumpeter version unless the ship is a particular favorite of mine.
I couldn't agree more about Trumpy's lethargic pace in scaling down to 1/700. On the wrong side of 70, I'm a bit leery of running out of time :wink_3.gif before I see Schelswig-Holstein, the Zaras and a couple of others.
At least Belfast 1942 is FINALLY on the way, as you and I celebrated :joker: farther up this thread.

Thanks 'Q', I'm also beyond my own allotted three score years and ten, so I know full well the thoughts of running out of useful building time.

Being a somewhat sad person, when HMS Belfast finally materialises, it'll probably be the high spot of my year but what would make things even more epic would be for FlyHawk to suddenly unveil their HMS Vanguard. I'm not greedy; I just like a lot

On a different theme, if manufacturers are searching for new, different and viable subjects to produce, it's always a source of amazement for me that the UKs 'R' class battleships never seem to come into contention, either in their World War I or World War II configurations.

The same thing could be said about the US battleships Arkansas and Nevada, as at the time of their 'D' Day participation.

It's a perpetual puzzle, but such is life in the slow lane.
