I have Tom's Nevada (1944) resin kit that came out around the beginning of 2022. A lot of it is 3D printed and with great detail. It is unique in that it features items provided by many companies all in one package. And you don't have to purchase anything extra, with the exception of brass barrels if you want them, to have a great model. Check out the review on this site.

IMHO it is better than the plastic kits of the US prewar or wartime upgrades. And it is made here in the USA.

Actually Len was referring to the 1941 Nevada kit which is largely 3D printed. The 1944 Nevada kit is currently a traditional resin kit as is the 1944 Arkansas. There are plans to upgrade each of these kits with 3D parts but this will definitely be in the latter part of this year at the earliest.

Thanks Len, that's very interesting and very helpful.

I've never bought a resin kit before and tended to stay away from them, partly because of ignorance on my part and partly because of past reports of warped hulls etc.
However, this has whetted my appetite as I loved the Nevada's 1944 configuration, with her extended funnel, remodelled bridgework and 5" 38 DP armament.

I'm tempted to take the plunge so, thank you once again.

Richard is right in that I meant the Nevada 1941 (Pearl Harbor) rather than the Nevada 1944. A brain fart and what I get for posting late at night. So if you want a great first resin & 3D printed kit than the 1941 version would be great. Otherwise if you want the 1944 Nevada then you will need to wait for the planned upgraded kit as Richard states. I will wait because it will be worth it.

Either, or both (??), of those would be absolutely terrific.

If ever Vanguard is released by anyone though, I'm surmising the deck will have to be in two parts, to allow for the increased sheer forward. Hopefully the 'join' will be masked at a breakwater.

However, I just wonder how viable it would be for a manufacturer to actually do the deck in one part ?? Technically, would this be a realistic proposition and, if anyone could do it, would the favourite's money be on FlyHawk to carry it off ??

A few of Vee Hobby�s CAD shots on progress. I imagine this will follow their South Dakota class and Missouri release style. A base kit, deluxe and premium? Maybe with a smaller subject it will just be basic and premium?

1/700? Early or Late War?

Why everyone keeps doing Late-War releases of USS South Dakota is something of a stumper in terms of marketing, given that the Trumpeter SoDak with the PE kit is a more than adequate kit.

Yet not a single version of it exists in its early-war outfit (And I have discovered that sources of her outfit at that time are not hard to come by).

Joy Yard just guaranteed me a few days in "time out" from the wife. They're doing injection kits of:

* Fuso class (1919)
* Ise class (1919)
* ALL 8-8 capital ships.

All.

8-8.

Capital.

Ships.

(And some other stuff, but 8-8!)

I hope however that this time, the kit will be in real size because for Shandong, they used the same hull as for Liaoning, but it was too short by at least 1 cm (I do not remember exactly)

This is not what I found 2 years ago when I wanted to build Shandong. But I do not remember where I found my data. Maybe data have changed now on these carriers as the Chinese want to keep lots of secrets on their warships

got it ! The French version of wikipedia counts 10 additional meters for Shandong (315 m) against Liaoning (304,5m)

The Chinese Wikipedia does not show that difference in length, nor most of the other Wikipedia articles. It could be correct that the hull is the same...
