By the way, I forgot to say 'nice build'. Keep it up and you'll have an absolutely first class model in 8 yrs time.
This is the 'lines' plan as that's the only bit that shows them. I marked them in red for clarity. The big keels are above them.
This is the plating diagram. While only the big keels are depicted, they are not portrayed deep enough. As drawn, they have no depth to them and I'm pretty sure the big keels should be level with the hulls bottom. The drawing (above) goes a bit strange in the middle of the keel.
A friend told me about this model under construction. Especially the flat bottom is what surprised him. I've seen the comments on the dockkeels. I think these forms at the flat bottom does not exist. My opinion is that it misinterpreted the drawings. I think that it has joined the shape of the frame hull with the block of the dry dock as one. Also in the photos of the Tirpitz wreck these forms do not look or are in the hull.
The Scharnhorst, Scheer and Deutschland have a small step in the flat bottom, but not the size shown here.
I have the plans of the Scharnhorst and the flat bottom is divided into three rectangular flat areas with a step almost imperceptible.
Another reason is that if these forms had existed, the drag would be great.
It is for these reasons that I think that these forms did not exist.

I have been following this thread with a lot of interest since Bismarck is my favorit ship. The dedication to the details that 109 has put in his project is outstanding also it seems that his skills are remarkable and not very common. I would like to have the same information he has to build a model like his but I doubt I can accomplish the job with the same succes.
109, please up date this thread as often as possible since your work catch the attention of many. I would like to send you a personal message if you don't mind.

My proyect is very old and I advance very slowly. I had for many, many years a lack of information, also working hard for living give me not too much time, but in anyway if I though to build this ship when I was only 10 or 11 years old, now I am 52, contrary to many people may think I hope some day in the future finish it. It's a big model, scale 1:50 R/C with many working features. Since many years I have been collecting items for my Bismarck, documentation, electric motors, gears, some propellers, electric items etc. I am living with my family in a small department so building a ship of that size here is unrealistic, but if everything is going as I've planned I shall move in to my new home next fall. There will be plenty of space to build my ship. The project has change since 1970, scale has been modified, operational features has been added, type of construction has been also changed, but my intentions are to lay down the keel in the spring of 2012. Family and house got the priority, you know...
By now I can only make a 3D model and prepare every piece to be lasser cutted in steel, curved as necessay, welded and/or glued in place. I will try to upload some screen shots of the work I've made up to now. It is not very much indeed, but as I told you before my time available to work is limited and the accuracy of the design is a must. If the upload is successful, in black you can see the profile of the ship, with all decks and bulkheads as the original. Well, some lines are missing but they will be drawn soon. In blue the frame 112.3 and in dark gray the lines of the armor deck. In red you can see the flat bottom plate. Note the 3D model of shafts, electric motors and propellers. Those are complete with shaft seals, thrust and guide bearings, couplings and so on, very hard to see in the screen shots.
My model of the Bismarck is based in an accurate 3D model scale 1:1 made by Richard Dunn, a naval architect from Australia who is building a model in 1:48 scale using wood and fiberglass. Since I am not familiarized to fiberglass but steel construction, I've choose the later from my model. A note of credit. The flat bottom and propellers shown (or to be shown) are scaled down models from Richard's 3D model. Scale is 1:10 (Hopefully Richard does not mind) I've made by myself the rest of work shown here and I will continue to develope my model like the original Bismarck but adapting certain parts to the necessary equipment, for exemple batteries instead of boilers, a generator set to charge batteries installed in the auxiliary bolier's room. Ballast tanks as necessary etc. Some simplifications will be necessary in order to facilitate the construction, but the general structure will follow the original configuration as adaptation of Richard's 3D model.
Well, that's all I can say for now. Let's see if I can upload the screen shots.
I am trying to reduce the size of the screen shot file but no succes until now. Yes I've spend long time last night reading the thread of kiwimedics. I wrote to him some lines in the past. Magnificent job indeed.
Regarding the plans of Richard in Australia, he made a 3D model but I got only part of it, the most important parts may be. I think he is registrered in this forum as RD studio or something like that. His model was on sale a couple of years ago but I do not know now what's going on. I lost contact with him few monts ago but if you want to contact him I can ask if I can give you his e-mail. May be he can show his work in this forum or if I got his authorisation I can show some screen shots of the model (I'm still trying to find aout the way to up load some files of my project)

Rafael did get the hull bottom shape right (black area). The outline of the bottom is equal to the waterline 0. Now the shape of Bismarck�s and Tirpitz� hull bottoms should be clear.
