Hello! I've been watching your progress since beginning - this is the most amazing ship building i've ever seen! I'm building now Trumpeter Richelieu as well, but change it to the statement of 1940, when it was in Dakar. I use your posts to clarify some difficult and not so clear moments - so, thank you very much for so detailled description of your work!
Could you please advice me - which paints (producer) do you use for painting? As I know, in 1940 Rischelieu was painted with Light Gray as well, like in 1952, so I am trying to find right "Light Gray"... Until now - no luck. Humbrol has 2 colors named Light Gray - number 64 and 147, but 64 is too dark and 147 seemes to be a little bit yellow... Do you mix colors or use some ready one?
Regards,

Hello
Scottie I'm sorryfor my late answer , thank you for your kind comments .For my part I use, the acrylic Gunze, but for the Humbrol paint , I would use preferably the 147(mat light grey).
I draw your attention to the fact that the "Richelieu " of 52 ,did not have much to do with the Richelieu of 1940, just between us, my next "big project" is also a Richelieu period 1940. I hope you will share your work by opening a thread. If you need documentation or information, do not hesitate
I returned to my paint job ,with the masking of the deck
The dark gray is applied to the bow and stern
And all the passageways, and other parts, receiving the dark gray paint on the floor
Then the mat black is applied to the height of the waterline
Masking of the gray and black
Then comes the turn of the layer of antifouling
Masking of antifouling, and applying a coat of primer
And the coat of light gray definitive
And now, my favorite moment (or that I fear most

)the undressing of the beautiful (the hull

)
I am not unhappy with the result
best regards
Nicolas

Hello again! Thank you, I also think that 147 suits the best, may be I will make it a little lighter mixing with white color. You can see my progress in 1940 Richelieu here:

Unfortunately it is in Russian, but you can see photos anyway... I am not so fast in building process as you are:)

Nicolas great job. The Richelieu was a ship unknown to me until I make the same model in 1/700. It's a great ship. Trumpeter model has several errors, but this work to 1/350 is fine.

no problems "guest " was a joke,I am happy ,that my hands have taken a trip to Russia

for the photos,if it is for passionate discussion, there are no problems of copyright, I do not have the "big head"

,but,I do not think my work is a reference

HI guys
Thanks you to follow and your participation

Kometa your model is is very nice, and just like that ,and it is not a critical ,but the name "richelieu" on the stern, has never been red ,dark grey ,white,or of color of overall paint
A little update of the paint work .in the first time, masking of the passageways on the castle, the floor of the main roof and all bathtubs by masking tape
After the application of litgh grey (MR color 325) "undressing" of the parts and temporary assembly
I couldn't resist, I posed tentatively the all on the deck, just for look
I must say, to see that the superstructure grow, encourages me to for the rest of the work has coming
See you soon
Best regards
Nicolas

Wow Nicolas...
Your work is always immaculately neat, clean and sharp... a real inspiration. superb masking and airbrushing too... nothing really more say other than 'that is stunning'
I wish my own work was as good as this... I might find it more enjoyable!

Hello Nicolas!
Your painting work is super nice! I always leave painting till the very end of building process because I very afraid of destroying all my work due to some painting mistakes... Every time something goes wrong

. Now I bought good airbrush compressor (before I had hand made one

) and hope it would increase my painting quality!
Another thing I'm praying to - is your molding...

It looks for me like some UFO technology

Is it a big secret - which chemicals you use for it? Is it possible to buy it on e-bay for example?

HI Scottie
to paint, I use a compressor that I have homemade (21 years of good job)!!!
front
rear
it is imperative to put a safety valve (the pressure rises to 5 bar) for the tank ,I am qualified welder nuclear and offshore, it helps
and for my "chemical " I use the product axson brand (F32 for resin, and essil 125 for the mold) the link
http://www.axson.com/en/index.html
try it this
http://cgi.ebay.fr/RESINE-POLYURETHANE- ... 5645fd484e
a Friend used it with no problems
otherwise,my chimney had been put aside,by lack of documentation, but Yesterday I got new pictures, and I detail the rest ,this morning , here is the version 3.0 of my chimney(Scottie I wait the pics for the "cover"

)
best regards
Nicolas

Hello Dear Nicolas!
I found one picture of pre-43 Richelieu and get confused with frame constructions on the cimney:
don't you may be know their story? when they were installed? As I can see on photos of 1940 year there is no sign of them...

That's Sadir's receiving antenne installed in 1940 after Catapult operation in Dakar ,and they were abolished during US modification.

hello scottie and the others
I'm sorry for my late response on the triangular covers ,but ,nothing very convincing for the moment !! The two structures (vergues in french) on chimney and two rear the "castle" were installed in May 1941 ,they serve as supports for the DEM ( dtection lectromagntique ) The ancestor of the French radar
I hope that answers your question and does not hesitate for the others questions
best regards
Nicolas
