Great to see this magnificent project shaping up!
Very cool solution for the portholes. You're sternwalk certainly isn't that complex, considering the result you are making of it. (the other option is of course that it is truly complex, but that you are a superb master of the scratchbuilding arts, well.... I guess this one is the correct explanation after all

)
Very nice ship, hope to see an overall shot of your build soon!

Soon after they were constructed, both Dorsetshire and Norfolk received two quad .5 machine gun mounts. These were placed on raised platforms located just forward of the second funnel. As originally fitted these platforms were protected only with two-bar pipe railings, but blast from the 4 guns immediately below must have been an issue because, at some point, they were both raised higher and fitted with plated blast shields.
The only photo that I have been able to find that shows these platforms in any detail is this one, taken after the 1937 refit when the twin 4 mounts were fitted.

I have constructed the platforms just shown on the as-fitted plans. Each platform has two ready-use ammunition lockers along with the machine gun mount. The bridge between the two platforms is shown without railings on the plans and that is how I have built it, but I would not have wanted to walk across it. Common sense suggests that there would have been railings, at least on one side, and I may add some later. There are also brackets for W/T booms that need to be added just inboard of the platforms where the bridge widens out
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I have been doing a lot or traveling for work lately and have not been able to do as much on Dorsetshire as I would have liked. Hopefully, I can get a in little more modeling time in the coming weeks.

Just a few update photos. I have started painting the model and have begun some final assembly. The model will depict the ship when she visited Sydney, Australia in 1938 and was painted overall light gray (AP507C) and dark gray decks (AP507A) with union jacks painted on the roofs of B and X turrets.
Below is a photo of the forecastle with the port anchor and much of the foredeck detail in place:
B Turret and the fore superstructure in place:
The bridge with the raised wood platform and gratings in place:

This is just a word of encouragement on the model. Sounds great. My dad was the navigator on the Dorsetshire Walrus from before the Bismarck episode to the sinking. I was surfing to see if I could find a model for his 90th birthday. I'll watch this space for developments!!

All:
It looks like the above images are too wide for the format of modelwarships.com, and that the right margins of some of the photos have been cut off. However, if you rightclick each individual photo-pair and save it to your computer's hard drive, and then view the photos there, you will be able to see them in their entirety.
My apologies for this!
