Hi again,

because next to HMS Shearwater there are some more ships in progress, I renamed this WIP to "My scale 1/350 modeling yard"

Also I'm still waiting for some decals to finish HMS Shearwater. Well I spend some time starting WEMs HMS Montgomery. The basic for the kit is WEMs old USS Reuben James. WEM add some new parts and a new PE fret to give us a fine model of one of the old Destroyers loaned to the RN in late 1940.

The kit is quite well but I replaced some parts. The most obvious parts are the four new stacks made of brass by BMK - thanx Burkhardt! The small resin parts show some wholes. Not common to WEM kits, you've had to fill them. A bit annoying but not a big problem! The 3" and 4" gun are very nice and with the PE parts they look great. I decide to build Montgomery in her late 1941 fit, without hedgehog and with the old US style searchlight tower in place. Next to the kit parts I add some L'Arsenal, MASTER and Paperlab (searchlight) parts. She is not finished, but a good progress so far.

That is some fine work. I love the new funnels!

I must say, the funnels are really exellent.

I built the Reuben James when she first came out and to date she remains the fastest build i have ever done.
I started her on the Wednesday morning and finished on Friday lunch time the same week, alas i don't get that sort of time anymore to build so my offerings these days are limited.
I find these ships really interesting and yet i don't know why?

Today there is only a small update on Montgomery. There is a lot of work to do in the office, so I'll try to make some small steps in the future.
Guido loaned me his book "Anatomy of the Ship - HMS Campeltown". Following some of the fine photos of the 4" gun and the foredeck I add a handrail in front of the gun. I used 0.3mm brass rod. I don't know, if this handrail was fitted to Montgomery, but it looks well on the otherwise empty looking foredeck. I add also two hawseholes on port and starbord. Well, one reason renaming my WIP - there are a lot of project in different stages. One, nearly finished and ready to paint is a HobbyBoss 1/350 scale Kilo class sub. I get this one as a review sample. The very well done kit was build in only a few hours. The sub spend some time in my modeling yard, because I did not know what to do with it. Ruis fine drydock diorama inspired me to show the Kilo also in drydock.
I used styrene (6.0mm thick doubled in this case) for the dock wall and some thinner styrene for the floor and the gangway. Some Tom's Carrier Catwalks, L'Arsenal ladders and some styrene were used to make the stairway. Because I need a lot of dock bearings (hope the word is correct?!) I made a master. A close modeling friend will make the casting, I hope to get the parts asap.

subs have never been my cup of tea, that was until i saw Rui's dio last year, couldn't stop looking at it
For the first time somebody had found a way to truly show a sub off.

I know your work with styrene very well now and look forward to seeing this completed is should be awsome.
are they the L'Arsenal brackets you have used from their generic 1/350 ship sets, i have a couple of sets of these and plan to raid their stocks for more at telford for some scratch builds i plan to do.

@Roy, I used brackest from the Lion Roar set LE350013 IJN Triangular Perforated Board.

Today I have a small update. I add some hose reels and vents as well as an additional locker onto the deck. I modified the PE anchor crane with 0.3mm styrene rod to get a more three-D look.
Also finished, boats, davids (with some modifications), DC rails and the anchors.

some more but small update. The torpedo david PE part, slightly modified. Also some more details, ladders at the stacks, crows nest, yardarms and ladder at the mainmast. Even though the model is in scale 1/350 I plan to add some details inside the bridge. At first I have added some stringers to the inner side of the bridges bulwark as seen in the photo.

today I start working on the birthday present I have got from my close German Gamblers friends - Trumpeters HMS Repulse in scale 1/350. To get this present from my friends was a great delight, and again I'd like to say "thank you very much my friends"!

Why I start working on that beauty - well, because the hull was a banana boat - the stern was liftet up approx. 9mm from aft admidship along the centerline! To fix the problem by gluing the hull to the waterline baseplate was in my opinion not a good idea becaus of later warping. So I decide to fix it with heavy duty - a brass plate plate 5mmx40mmx453mm with some M3 threadholes to fix the hull to the bras plate along the centerline. Because I have no box column drill I ask Burkhardt Masch (BMK) for some help. I made a small drawing with all the dimension and send it to Burkhardt who was so kind to work on the brass plate. The part arrived yesterday and I was really excited to look for the first fit. The fit was very well and today I drilled out the holes along the upper hulls centerline. The brass plate served the purpose and the hull was now really flat! A side effect, Repulse weight comes now close to her scaled down 1:1 weight

Just a quick note on the Kilo aft diving planes, they should be lowered, not risen - that's a no no

1. yep I renamed the WIP, because there are to much ship models I work on parallel
2. To give a note to a modeler an his well done model was a matter of course!

last week I got the dock bearings casted in grey resin made by my modeling friend Andreas Krause - Thanx Andreas!
The parts are well done, only some minor air bubbles to correct. I took a lot of time to cut the parts off and fix them along the dock floor, but the result was worth the trouble! Next to the dock bearings I add side supports made of 2.0 and 1.5 mm styrene rod. The dio isn't finished yet, but another step is done!

I have ordered some GHQ vehicles for my Shearwater diorama. I got them also last week. The white metal casting of the scale 1:285 vehicles is amazing. I start painting some of them, take a closer look to the result!
