how do you pretend show these internal arrangments ? :wave_1: :thumbs_up_1:
With enough light you should be able to see very well into the sea box. There will be a grill in the opening, however. At least for a static model I wanted to recreate these inlets, especially as there is much debate on the outline of the openings in the hull. So, having a correct seabox penetrating thru the outer shell will end in the correct outline of the openings!

How is your build coming along??

Bye!

We had -12 C last night, weekend temps will be higher and probably some rain. At least better for modeling unless you need to vent the modeling roon - then it gets too cold...;-)

Having nearlly finished making the hull for Varyag, I am even scared about making holes in her for the props, let alone all the "sea chests"

Wonderful work 109, looking forward to the next installment.

Hi,

started to determine the position of the seabox in the hull ...

Bye now,

Bernd.

Hi,

I am installing the cooling water inlet for the middle turbine right now. here are a few pictures. My solution is different from the scale modeling plans available.

Time for dinner...

Bernd.

PS: Thanks to all those who helped me on this item. :-)

very nice work on the thru hulls on bismark :thumbs_up_1: . modern ships still have seperate thru hulls for engine and turbine cooling ,but i belive most other things are taken from a central sea box,to cut down on the amont of holes in the hull.on the coast of british columbia all the new tugs and fishing boats are this way, less chance of a thru hull failing and sinking the boat.

Hi,

hmm.. I am not a naval architect, but I think making one very large sea box for all the needs makes no sense on a large ship as Bismarck, maybe on a tug it makes sense ... ?! On Bismarck you have 125 m to both end of the ship. :-)

Hi Bernd!
The cooling water intakes for central turbine room was located at port or starboard side ? It seems that you have located those intakes between the water lines 1.4 m and 3.1 m and parallel to them. I saw in different drawings, not original drawings indeed, that the intakes are not parallel but somehow inclined. I really don't know why would inclined anyway. Could you please clarified the situation ?

I like very much your job in this particular point. In my 3D model it is a lot easier to do it by the way. Please update your Bismarck reconstruction as often as possible.

Hi,

good observation.

So far all available model plans are "wrong" in my opinion. The seachest was horizontal and not inclinded, so upper and lower edge is parallel to the keel; inner height of seachest according to my reconstruction is 1500 mm, 1500 mm above keel plate (I used 1 mm material for construction -> 14 mm and 31 mm above keel). the center turbine intake is starboard right behind the bilge keel.

Bye for now,

Bernd.

Hi,

I finally finshed the quest for the RAL 8013/Schiffsbodenfarbe III anti-fouling shade used on KM vessels.

I checked it against some other often used RAL-shades on KM-models. To my opinion RAL 8012 could be used as an substitute as it is readily available, no mixing needed. RAL 3009 could be used on smaller scale models as it is lighter in shade than 8012/8013. RAL 3011 is too red and I would not used it at all on KM vessels.

Bye!
