It's from airbase, but it's not from the normal navy board, it's from the modelbuilding part on Stereguchiy. I've noticed this topic has more detailed shots, including those parts next to the hangar, but whithout the boats in place. So a better view of what's around those boats is seen here. Hope it can help you. Let me know which other parts you don't have a good reference on, I'll see if I can find something.



btw, saw your article on Daring's Zodiac and the installations behind it inside that "hangar" space. Really great reading!

Hi Roel thanks for the offer always appreciated. I shall be getting the drawings of Soobraziltelnyy in a few days time so I'll have to make my mine up quite soon as to which one I going to build. Hope to get some real progress underway within the week , watch this space Also I'm really pleased that you have found the article on the building of the RIB and hanger space interesting . It surprised me when I realise that I have been running that series of build articles for nearly 2 years.

Christmas comes early for Dave but has yet to think of a way of getting it past Mrs Wooley and into the shed; until then it resides in my front room.

What can I say, caught in the act so to speak Even Richard Motyaka builder of the two magnificent 1;72nd Russian warships was more than tempted. This is a superb hull , a project I have worked on for such a long time is one step further along .

Very nice looking hull DW what are the dimensions of her ??

Hi Bruce the hull measures 1450mm x 205mm , not to big to work with ,I can even turn the hull in my tiny workshop , couldn't do that with the Kiev or Daring but 72 is a great scale to work with .

Nice !! That would make her about 100mm (approx.) shorter than an ANZAC class FFH with similar beam. Can you do a pic with her alongside the Type 45??

Hi Roel Yes you are right . Shafts and power train to go in first . Then electronics and out for ballast trials , then the real work begins. I am itching at the bit

Hi Bruce sure i'll get a picture of both together , on the bench. Some of the naval pundits have mentioned that the Steregushchiy is a reworked Krivak 3 design yet remains a corvette ?

These two ships are not related at all. Completely new hull. Like this you could say that the it's derived from a Slava as well... They hardly have anything in common. If you look at the Krivak hull shape, with the knuckle and aft part, without helicopter or hangar, you see this hull is completely different from Stereguchiy.

I agree and that's the way it looks to me but the Talwar which is derived from a krivak3 does have a hanger and has some of the features of project 20380 so there must be a design cross over somewhere .

Hi Dave,

Here is a picture of the Stoiky under construction.


Note the missing bow sonar and the apparently seperately added dipping sonar housing. She also will have the Klub VLS forward rather than Kashtan. Not sure if they will keep this as a standard of if they will use the Kashtan on some units depending on fleet. (operational need in different fleets is very different, I can imagine that in Black Sea you have more need for additional air defense rather than additional long-range anti-ship or anti-sub weapons)

On Krivak III, all Russian ships have a similar hangar, including Krivak III as well as Neustrashimiy, that doesn't mean that Talwar is derived from Neustrashimiy does it? Definately not, although both ships do have a similar hangar and Kashtan/CIWS lay-out. There may be a cross over in the design, but it's rather dictated by the very high and big Helix helicopter and similar thinking rather than copying/deriving from a single design.

Hi Roel Yep I can't disagree with your logic re-Krivak 111 . Great shot of the Storiky as for the bow sonar apparently the bulb is fitted separately, it�s a structural thing. Also the kashtan on Steregushchiy has no below deck magazine, a standard feature which implies that the Kashtan fitted to the Steregushchiy was a temporary "bolt on� fit. There seems to be some consensus that this was a one off and the remainder of the class are VLS. Yet as we know these assumptions can change, so we wait and see what happens. Personally I like the Kashtan as a feature so I�m sort of half convincing myself to go with the Steregushchiy rather than any others in the class ? . Whilst at Telford I was drooling over Jims 1:700 Rurik and I mentioned to Jim that one day , yes one day I will have to dig the old 1:96 Rurik out and finish the project
