Thanks Atma for the news on the wood deck for QE in 1/350.
I think I will be waiting for the full add on as there are some major things that need sorting in my veiw.
Admiral GB has found one, I to have the pontos add on for Warspite, having not checked it yet its nice to know there are extra's in it.
I think I have seen this photo before, but it is still a very nice image of HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH in June 1943. Found at NARA in 80-G collection. Timely with the new kit.
(I didn't check to see if it has been posted here already ... too many pages to check. )
Artwox decks for both of the Trumpeter QE's are now in stock at Lucky model. Just ordered mine. Worked out at around 15 for the 1/350 and 9 for the 1/700! Bargain!!
Roger Torgeson found this photo of Warspite at the US National Archives last week, while scanning photos of the USS Mackinac:

Received my the Trumpeter 1/700 QE, it's a beauty nonetheless the depicted year (1918) is not too meaningful. What is the potential to:
- date back to year 1915 (Battle of Dardanelles)?
- convert to other sisters to depict them in Battle of Jutland? any significant differences between the sisters?
plus, can the WEM 1/700 QE PE set be used on the kit? is it worth the money?
When built, and as deployed to the Dardanelles, QUEEN ELIZABETH had a sternwalk; the four main deck 6" guns were still fitted abreast "Y" 15" turret; the small platform below the foretop was absent; the middle bridge (platform depicted in the kit with four searchlights) was smaller and only carried two searchlights; there was a searchlight on each side of the after superstructure and none on the centreline; no searchlight on the mainmast, and the associated platforms had not been fitted: the searchlight towers on the after funnel had not been fitted as per the kit; there was a smaller, lower platform for two searchlights on the after side of the after funnel. She had nets draped below the foretop, and a false bow-wave painted on. Due to shortages, she only had one 3" AA gun - the other was temporarily replaced by a 3pdr gun (I'm afraid I don't know which side this was).
Most of the class had a variety of changes to their searchlight locations before the Battle of Jutland.

Thanks you for information. It seems a lot of work will need to be done for these purposes. With limited reference on hand, I think I will most likely stick to the kit for a straightforward build.
Anyone know what the interior of the Warspite's funnel would look like in '43? Besides EJ's photo of a funnel, I can't find any details. Other than a crosswalk, would there be any significant details that would show?
Images of funnel interiors are very rare. For my Hood model I came up with what I wrote here. I'm reasonably sure the walkway in the funnel is correct, but I have no information on pipes.

Hi, hope someone can help. I have the Academy Warspite, WEM PE, and Pontos wooden deck. I notice that the design of the catapult additions are very different - WEM appears to be open, whereas Pontos appears to be closed over with a cover. However, I have seen pictures of both designs with a Walrus on a cradle atop the catapult. I would really like to know which design is more accurate and why the difference. Many thanks for any help you can give. John
Early to mid 1943 the planes were removed from most (if not all RN capital ships). Am assuming Pontos are giving modellers
a choice. I built mine using the Pontos deck and PE, and intend to display a Walrus plane separately. The WEM PE was also very
useful as a back up, as i found the pontos set was very soft, with some of the parts breaking when trying to bend.
Hope this helps.
Tim.
PS Pontos, your Warspite set is terrific and this is in no way meant as a critique.
Anyone can help and guide me as to what corrections/modifications shall I need to make to represent HMS Queen Elizabeth 1918 from Trumpeter in 1/700 for a same period HMS Malaya ?
Thanks in advance.
By the way an interesting release, Academy has a Premium edition (wooden deck, PE set and brass barrels) of HMS Warspite in 1/350, check it out: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10184491
Right, my mistake. Still, Burt treats the QEs as well and shows Malaya in her 1919, 1926, and 1930 configurations in side/top views and with deck layouts. Burt does mention that the bridge work is similar for all 5 ships around 1918 but for Malaya he writes: lower yard on fore below starfish, gaff well below starfish. No drawing of QE itself is included though.
