I�m new here and new in modeling resin and plastic kits. My main activity is to build historical wooden model of ships from the age of sail. Then I saw the awesome buildings of Jim Baumann and became interested to see more of such buildings.
Then, a few weeks later my wife offered me the YS Masterpiece kit of the USS Brooklyn I metioned to her before. What a nice surprise!
After ordering the kit arrived a week later at - as I can see - all is of a fantastic quality.Because it�s my first modell don�t damn me for mistakes etc.
... I�m a bloody beginner. And because I have some other interests (wooden ship models, playing Jazz-guitar and archery) I will continue from time to time ... but unfortunately not very fast. So, please be patient ...

I planed to build USS Brooklyn as a waterline diorama. Unfortunately the kit was delivered as a full hull modell. So I had to remove the underwater hull with a sander. It was a very clever idea to do this outside and not in the living room (as I first planed to to!). I guess my understanding wife surely would have killed me!
First I marked the waterline with a tape and then the sander came along. Because it�s just a small belt sander the line is not that propper as I planed ... so ok ... I guess the Brooklyn has to got through heavy waters in the diorama 
After that I brusched the hull with a basic colour (grey) and painted the decks twice with Tamya sand colour. The caulcing was imitated by using a sharp pencil ... it worked well and I�m quite happy with the result. The "superstructure" was painted with "buff" freom WEM which is a nice tone (later I washed it with water-thinned burned umbra acrylic).
Then the hull was painted in a white and the rest of the underwater-hull in a dark red. Unfortunately the tape I used to build a propper waterline removed the white colour partly when I took it away in the end ... bloody beginner mistake??? So I had to recolour the line by hand.
