Gradually evolving from sailing frigates, the first modern cruiser is not easy to define, but this book starts with the earliest steam paddle warships, covers the evolution of screw-driven frigates, corvettes and sloops, and then the succeeding iron, composite and steel-hulled classes down to the last armoured cruisers.

This fills a huge gap in the technical histories of Royal Navy warships. For me it is the most anticipated book in years.

I got the book today: many nice photos, good drawings (sometimes even the torpedo boats on board the cruisers are drawn to a larger scale) - but unfortunately only very few drawings of the masted cruisers.
