New Years group build

Hey all,

Been awhile and thought with the upcoming new year, perhaps a Group Build coinciding with it would be in order. My New Years resolution is to not begin any new construction until I complete at least a few of my started/stalled builds. Anyone else up for this? Maybe try a short 3 month run? I think I could finish one or two of them in that time, and if others joined in the group encouragement could help some us?

I'm already working on an "already started" build that's been dormant for some time. Another forum I'm on runs a group build like that at the end of the year for the express purpose of finishing those types of builds. In short, GREAT IDEA!!! I'm in

Sounds like a great idea. I have 12 ships currently started in one form or another, and the only ships Ive finished the past year or so was the 1/700 Maryland and a LST

I have a started/stalled build that I could (might be able to) finish in a three month span of time. Count me in.

I was able to finish three s/s builds this last year in earilier Group Builds. Getting another one of those done at the beginning of the year would be just swell.

JT, I feel lucky that I have seen up close the two ships you have finished.

That IS a great idea! I REALLY need to finish my 2012 "big project" (1/72 Gato) and probably only have a few weekends of work left on it, if only I buckled down and did it.

My model dungeon is currently being moved into a storage unit while we move but I should hopefully be set up again and able to start around the end of January. Count me in too!

Ok, now to just decide which one to work on first? Samek's 1/700 USS Delaware or my semi scratch built 1/350 USS Sterett?

Great idea! I was thinking of soing the same with my Straat Clarence project though I'll keep that thread active under Online Scratchbuilds.

i will be in too .
i just have to choose from 7 kit in 1/700 that i have available now .
Uss Enterprise CV6 , Uss Arizona BB39 , Uss Minneapolis CA36 , liberty ship J. O'Brien
Admiral hipper 1940 , and 2 IJN heavy cruiser Atago and Nachi .
i will just follow this thread and deicide soon ...my only resolution will be not to start all of them together only one at the time .

The Delaware is fairly far along, I could probably in a good weekend get her done. Here is where she sits as of today.


I was initially very impressed by the kit, but as I started to assemble it I found it has many issues. Most minor, some more complicated. For the price I would have hoped for more but nonetheless where else you gonna get one without scratch building it?

I've chosen the 1/350 USS Chevalier DD805 to be pardoned from the "Shelf of Doom". Most of the pieces have been primed with Tamiya Fine Spray Primer and are ready for painting. I believe that she can be completed in a three month time period.

This is the Samek kit. I don't normally build 1/700 nor WWI era, but I have always been fascinated with the Delaware class. I had the opportunity to get this as sort of a "challenge myself outside my normal realm". Boy has it been a challenge, but I started it and darn it I'm going to finish.

I've decided to finally complete this model. I have the Eduard PE set, Flyhawk masts, and recently bought Tom's set. I didn't want to take the aftermarket TOO far, but hate how utterly basic the damn bulkheads are.

I've spent this evening detailing out the aft deckhouse with scrap PE hatches, some styrene strip, and windows. I'll be working my way forward with PE and putty.





I WILL be replacing the cranes with PE equivalents, but not sure if I'm going to buy brass for the 15 cm guns... kind of want to do this on the cheap.

Whatever you decide for the 150mm barrels make sure the singles and twins match and that they're smaller than the 11s. Love the look of these two ships and in this state its clear to my inner whiffer just how much room there is to modify the aircraft setup What scheme/time period is she going to be in?

Yeah... think I might just replace them. I'm going to go with the Tamiya recommended camo. Year wise? Not sure. I'm not going to put too much into this, accuracy wise... want to do one just for fun.

I pick the 1/700 Hobby Boss Arizona BB39 (1941 ) , in few days i will also receive an EDUARD PE details set for the 1941 version .
i already glued the 2 hull section together , will start to check some picture of the Arizona to see what kind of details i can add to the hull .

Managed to get the base coat down the the Delaware's deck. 1/700, what was I thinking?
I need to get these done and out of the way to make room for the Texas' and other great 1/350 kits coming out this year.

Got a little work in this morning. I keep telling myself that this build is not a super detail fest and to not get hung up on the details. Well I don't listen to myself very well. One of the most notable features of this class is the size of the port holes running down the side of the forecastle deck and on the 01 superstructure. The are considerably larger than the others running along the hull. So I drilled these out to be larger, the pattern and number does not match the prototype but I did manage to talk myself out of filling and re drilling. I then looked at the 5/51 that was mounted on the 01 decks in an position. You see the kit gun on the far left, which resembles the old sky wave attempt at a 5/25. In the middle we see Midships attempt at a 5/51, breech still not right and in 1/700 it actually is a 10 inch gun. So I took these, redid the breech and married it with some spare brass barrels I had laying around. 100% accurate? No, but much better in my eyes. You also see that the camera is better than my eye and I need some touchup on the deck paint.




Looking forward to see how everyone else is doing.
