I've located a few online vendors of very fine brass wire and mesh:

http://www.themeshcompany.com/ - Fine metal mesh (radar screens) in various metals, sizes, etc. - English website but uses PayPal & has an EBay connection.

http://www.twpinc.com/ - Wire mesh/screening etc. - may be a bit pricey for what you get.

http://www.whimsie.com/jewelrs%20bronze%20wire.html - Fine brass (and other metals) wire - sample sets available.
