Removing scuffs/scratches from clear plastic

Post by BombMagnet »

I have some clear plastic canopies that have some scuff marks on them and was wondering if there is a trick to removing them. Technically they are not scratches since scratches are more like single, thin etches. Here they look more like someone rubbed them with sandpaper. The clear parts were loose in the package and obviously rubbed against something.

That has happened to me too. The way I fixed it was sanding/polishing the whole canopy with sandpaper (usually bigger than 1000 grit) and then dipping the canopy in Future Floor Finish. In Germany, the substitute for that is called Emsal Voll-Glanz (not as good as pure Future, but it works). The clear part ends up better than new.

for information about the acrylic varnish (Future) see: http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html
