Marking the Water Line

Post by Harpy »

What's the best way to mark the water line on a large ship. I tried to mark the bow and stern points then taped between them marked the points, but there was enough flex in the tape to throw it off. Would a laser level work? The hull is around 3' or 4' feet.

Thanks,
Jim

Place the hull flat (waterline parallel) on the desktop, then attach a pencil to a solid block (wood or plastic - anything rigid). Make sure the block is of a height needed to get the pencil to the desired height on the hull. Then move the block around the hull so the pencil traces a level line along the waterline.
