I have not thought about them for some time, but I have a couple of handfuls of 1/600 scale Civil War Ironclads. I keep meaning to buy some of the regular steam warships of the period just before the advent of the ironclad.

And the period immediately following the Civil War, right up to the Spanish American war is probably my second favorite Naval Period (just after WWII).

One of the reasons I like it is that I can play Miniature Wargames in this period at the closest to the actual scale of the ships (at least the Civil War period, when gun range was pretty much limited to around 10,000 yards at extreme range).

Now that I know how to make photo-etch, I plan to do a bunch for my 1/600 scale Civil War ships (I haven't built about 1/2 of them, and I still have the Gloire and a couple of other French Ironclads, and the Onandaga sitting in my desk, waiting to be painted).
