French carrier Lafayette-1950s- Haze grey??

Post by Haijun watcher »

Hi all,

Here's are a couple of pics from the USS Langley/FNS Lafayette profile on Navsource. I was just wondering if she was painted in Haze Grey with a Dark grey deck at the time. The first picture is apparently from the early 1950s off Indochina, and the coloured one I assume is from the late 1950s when she operated in the Med. Sea.

I assume the first picture was before she had her lower hull painted Navy Blue much like the USN's MS22 camo.

Thanks in advance to anyone who could confirm these or provide feedback on this:

These are the typical French colours of the 1950s, a very light grey. Probably the same as still in use with the French navy.

The local rep for International Paints here gave me the following details. The French vessels in the Pacific come into Oz for repainting.

Thanks to both of you for your feedback.

Unfortunately, since no one replied when I first posted this thread, I already went ahead about 2 weeks ago and painted my Lafayette in Haze grey anyway.

I feel it could look better, since Haze grey has a slight greenish tint to it that doesn't match the pictures above.
