In case you spotted this book and wondered if it was worth the money, I have found it fascinating! It seems to a fairly good examination of the issues surrounding the design, building and use of subs by the two super-powers post WWII.

The information on the USS Seawolf and the Virginia class was very illuminating and critical of the US Navy's SSN design and procurement policy and lack of innovation. Also of interest was the suggestion by some former Soviet designers that the USSR spent too much in time and resources on their SSBNs. They could have done with fewer of them it seems.

The only thing I would have liked information on that doesn't seem to be covered by the book is the loss of the USS Thresher and USS Scorpion. Maybe it is still classified?
