Attaching 3D printed parts to styrene parts?

Post by CWatson »

I am not much of a after market part type of person but I have found many of Trumpeter USN kits have 20mm guns that lack shields so I bought some Blue Ridge 20mm 1/700 scale guns.

What is the best way to bond these materials? If it is Super or Crazy glue (CA?) is there a specific brand because in my experience the attachment point become brittle and separate over time.

Thanks again,

I have both Blue Ridge (haven't used them yet) and 3d Models guns in 1/700. Krazy glue is one of the most well known brands. Have you checked Gorilla Glue or Loctite? Have you tried it in gel? Also, are you leaving a little peg at the bottom of the gun pedestal for added support? Makes it easier for the mount to remain in position while the glue dries.

Never tried the gel, regular Crazy Glue seems pretty thick. Yes I leave a peg at the bottom to insert into hole on deck.

Thanks,

I used the 3DModelparts twin 20's, quad 40's, and 5 inchers in my 1/700 Indianapolis. I used Gorilla glue (a gel superglue) to attach them all to her and it worked just fine.
Just finished:
1/350 USS Columbia 1945

Current projects:
1/700 USS Catamount 1960
1/700 USS Helena 1942
1/350 USS San Francisco 1944
