CV10 Yorktown (WWII): deck edge elevator + size steel plates

Hi all,

For a diorama with an airplane I�m building a small part of the CV10 Yorktown (WWII).
More specific the area of the deck edge elevator.
Scale 1/48.
Subject: dropping of a crashed Hellcat into the ocean, by means of a Le Toureau crash crane.
The plane is on the deck edge elevator.

For the construction of the under structure of the deck edge elevator and a part of the deck I used the drawings from �Essex-Class Carriers� by Alan Parker.
But could anyone help me on the following?
Where can I find more detailed pictures or drawings of the hoisting structure of the deck elevator?
I mean the vertical structure used to lift or to raise from deck level to the hangar deck.

Scale 1/48 is relatively big.
Therefore the oil canning effect of steel plates must be visible on the model.
What could be the size of the steel plates used at that time?
I studied some pictures of Essex class carriers and I came up to 2,3m by 6,4m?
Is this size realistic?
