What to make sails from in 1/700 scale?

Post by pascalemod »

Guys, what do you recommend for making sail cloth out of in 1/700 scale? Especially sales that are all scrunched up and not fully open, as well as usual full of wind stuff?

I believe onion-skin (or tracing paper) is thin enough, and light enough for 1/700 sails. Soak with diluted white glue for forming furled sails. Cigarette rolling paper is also very thin. You could also try gift wrapping paper.

Furled sails are probably best done with putty, incorporating little paper triangles for the sheet corners sticking out (if this is the method used).

Otherwise one can also think of one layer of toilet-paper, ironed to remove any patterns and then lightly soaked in acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is more flexible than PVA glue and be bent into shape.
