I've begun work on Revell's 1/72 Gato and am adding the flood vents utilizing templates from Nautilus Models (a shameless plug for a great hobby store ). I'm looking for tips on how best to cut the holes. I've tried using my Dremel but the speed is to high and plastic melts onto the bit. I'm thinking there must be a better way. Sure would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
You can try the dremel on lower settings (If it can't, you bought the wrong dremel!) and a smaller drill. Just drill out most of the vents but not everything. You can use a (cylindrical) reamer or one of those grinders you got with the dremel to remove most of what's left. For the final stage, switch to manual work. Then, repair the damage you've done on a few holes that didn't go too well. Even reamers have a tendency to dig into the material from time to time. Great exercise for such a big kit! Wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off.
Thanks EJ, I'll give that a try. Fortunately for me I did get the right Dremel so I'll turn down the RPM's and give it another go with the reamer. Wax on, wax off...........
