IJN AA weapons

Post by Luftace »

Hi all
Can anyone tell me what colors IJN AA weapons were painted, specifically the 25mm single, double and triple mounts? Was the entire weapon painted the same color as the ship, or were the ammunition racks, barrels or seats painted a different color? Were they painted any differently between surface ships and submarines? I am currently building 1/350 IJN subs all of which have at least one of the 25mm type 96 mounts in their various configurations. Thanks much for any help.

Well, nothing is for certain, but it certainly seems like most of the time, the barrels and recoil tubes were gun metal grey, while the base was the same gray as the ship.

I like that last photo. Looks like that 25mm can be relocated and screwed down wherever needed. I had heard of this but never saw any photo. Was that the case, that smaller caliber AA could be be added/moved easily when required?
