Question on using polyester resin to build hull

Post by toiletfreak »

Hello, I have made a balsa scratchbuilt hull. Would like to ask if I can use polyester resin as a covering for the whole hull and as a gap filler in place of silkspan? Thanks!

Hi Toiletfreak ( ? )

you'd better use a mono-component polyurethane resin , which is easier to use on wood , as there is no mixing to do , just pour the needed quantity in a can and apply with a brush ...

balsa has the property to soak a lot of resin , apply that PU resin as long as the wood "drinks"

your hull will become strong as steel , no fibreglassing needed at all ...
