painting black hulls in 1/700

Post by Steve Jones »

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on painting very small 1/700 pre-WW1 destroyers. I've got a couple of Combrig resin early destroyers and I plan on painting one white using very very light grey - would I use something like gunmetal or very very dark grey for the black hull, with highlights in pure black? I only use enamels and brushes (not competent to use an airbrush!) Also, does anyone have any info on the deck colours? They are both British ships.......

Thanks

I would go with a very dark gray, like panzer gray, with a black pin wash, then a lighter gray drybrushing to pop the raised details.
Pure black is too stark on a very small scale model.
