Bismarck 3D Model
I've been plugging away at this model for a while now and hope to get back to it after a 6 month break shortly.
If someone could let me know how to post attachments (I don't appear to have that 'right'
), I'll drop some in here.

It appears that this section does not have the photo attachment tool enabled - you will have to display them the old fashioned way.
Upload your pictures to picture hosting site (I recommend http://www.tinypic.com), then post the direct link to image in your post. You can opt to display the pictures directly (using the image tags) or leave them as links for us to click on.
Edit: Photo attachment tool now enabled.

Sorry, I didn't realize I had that turned off in this forum. You should be able to attach files now.

Re: Bismarck 3D Model
Viktor,
Excellent! Your attention to detail is superb - threads on the turnbuckles! Wow!
What program did you use to create the model?
How large is the file?
How long does it take to render?
How long have you been working on the model?
Your model illustrates one of the most appealing aspects of 3D CAD modeling - there is no limit to the accuracy and detail that can be put into the model. Well, except for time, of course. You don't knock together something like this over the weekend.

Sorry to just write off. I was preparing a book from Bismarck to the issue and I did not have much time.
Bismarck was created in 3D the year.
It has 80 million polygons.
The program is Blender and Carrara.
Render the largest count 14 hours
Model has a 500MB file.
The book series Super Drawings in 3D - Battelship Bismarck is in print.
Has 180 renders the entire ship and details. there are plans to 1:350, and plans more details.
How come I give more details.
Greeting,
Viktor
Lage render. Nice Watching

Hi Viktor, can you help me to identify the colours that the Arados of Bismarck were painted in 1941?
Is it correct the colours that J. Asmussen point to superior surfaces of the seaplane, with no camouflage scheme?

Thanks for kind attention: Jimmy

Re: Bismarck 3D Model
really nice. I was working in solidworks but always have troubles with the hull I would like to do the Missouri the bismark and the Yamato in large R/C but trying to find solid model hulls for them really sucks there are none out there. im finally on the road working and have access to a CNC router so I could cut out the hull but have no hull to cut.
I really admire guys like you that can do these awesome models lol just wished you guys stop using stuff like 3d max and start using solid model cad progs then guys like me can do something with them and bring them to life for museums and such

Re: Bismarck 3D Model
Hello,
I have the 3D books of Bismarck, Scharnhorst and Prinz Eugen. They are really amazing. I have enjoyed every page when reading. I am not sure if the Scharnhorst book is from you Viktor, but it is also a great book. The drawings in 1/350 scale included in those books are very nice indeed. This series of 3D books is in my opinion the best in the market Today and worth every penny. If I can make a constructive critisism I would say that the hull deseve more detail but the superstructure is fantastic. Some of the renders are like a photograph, the funnel for example.
On the other hand I have a question for you Viktor. When I've received the book of Bismarck, it came with only one page of drawings. It seems that the whole rear superstructure is missing. I've wrote to the publisher (Kagero in Poland) asking if something is missing but they never answer, despite of the fact that I have purchased several items from them. Could you please tell me if there is one page I've missed when I bought that book ? Many thanks in advance.
For Joe, I have also worked in solid works and I hate it. It is expensive and complicated to use for me but produce nice results. Modification to the model is relatively easy since the model is parametric. Change the parametres and you change the shape of the model. Surfaces like a ship's hull is hard to do it in Solid Works, I use Rhinoceros instead and it is much easier to work with producing nice results, less expensive than SW (about 7 times less) and with the possibility to calculate the hydrostatics and other properties, although it is not parametric like SW.
Bismarck is one of my fvorite ship, so I'am working in a model in Rhino thinking to use a CNC machine to make the pieces.

Re: Bismarck 3D Model
actually Rafale surfaces are a piece of cake in solidworks. I just did a dvd i bought with 22 hrs of training building a full scale fully armed F-16 with surfaces and by the time i was finished with it surfaces were easy. but yes cost is a big thing for most people

Re: Bismarck 3D Model
Viktor, have you investigated any of the SVN versions of Blender? I'm thinking how awesome it would be to see that model rendered in Cycles and sitting on an Ocean Sim modifier!
Again, absolutely sterling work!
