"Lost Scrapyard" 1/350 Diorama

Post by MLDERS »

After a period of modeling something else but ships...

....i decided to test some new techniques in a short run project. The Base is the 1/350 USS Hoga kit from Iron Shipwrights. It was a present of two dear modeling fellas (Tino and Mima) of mine.
Poor in its Quality (i.m.h.o) i felt not able to render the Model in the way it once maybe was provided.

Tino and Mima wrote "Deine Herausforderung" ("Your Challenge") at the boxs cover.
And surely it was a Challenge.

The PE included, is pretty fine. The resin cast was horrible.
For my personal challenge ( i guess:D ) rudder, screw and lifeboats was missing.
In the MIG-Board i found some interessting examinations in color modulation an rendering rust and burnt iron.
I tried to bring this in smaller scales like the 350th.

and so i just started it....

cut off the unnecessary.....

and replace it with something custom

Right here, the model it self is almost done. It was planed just as a test.
But the results motivated me to keep it up. The base construction has just been started.

In Germany something like instant plaster is available. I just Puttyed, shaped and sanded something like
bricks in it... First layer of paint with some Tamiya grey is brushed

Image
there has to be much more color indeed...

voila...

A optical beacon raise in the background. Technically wrong at this stage...

Image
anyway.....more color has to be added. A test-line of weed is added...
Get ahead?....scrap it...? Ahead i decided..

The beacon is corrected to what it should be, at this picture

That is quite simply beautiful. Very well done!

Overall a really neat composition-the optical beacon lends itself well to creating a focal corner!

I am impressed!
