Empty Coke Cans ?

Every time you open a can of Coke, just think, before you throw away the empty.

This very thin aluminium, is a very inexpensive modelling medium. Regarding it's use, you will have to look at Radio Control & Scratchbuilding. Here you will find Ron's Iron Duke Build topic.

Ron uses, very thin alluminium waste from Litho Printing, to make armour plating and for covering wooden superstructure surfaces on his model. This material, is not always easy to obtain, unless you know where you can get it. But another alternative, is the alluminium used for drinks cans.

This material is very thin, yet strong and can be easily cut with a pair of scissors and can be bent and shaped with ease.

Although more useful for larger scale modelling, it could also be used for any of the smaller scales, for quite a number of various things, that need that metal look finish.

I've bbe using the spare metal around PE frets to make splinter shields in 1:700, but thats not a lot of material. Thank you very much for pointing this out, no doubt it can be put to many good uses in all scales.

The aluminum bottoms for "tea candles" is even thinner than coke cans. There isn't much on each candle but you can get a dozen for a couple of bucks. I use the candles to stretching sprue. Waste not, want not.

I know that Armor modelers use lead foil from wine bottles for their projects, although one bottle doesn't yeild much.

I know a guy who uses cans for 1/700 splinter shields. They look very good too.
