What is the best approach on painting technique when masking a ship's hull? I am currently working on QM2 (1:400) and three colors will be apply (white,black and red).

Red (underwater hull) first, Black (upper hull) second and the white stripe (boot topping?) last. thats what I'd do anyway. Or is that only if the hull is light gray and the stripe is black?
